PHCC starts dispensing blood glucometers free of cost to selected patients

If you are a diabetes patient and go to different branches of the Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC) to get yourself treated, then you may be eligible to receive a free glucometer.
As part of a push to improve PHCC’s health services, it has started to dispense blood-glucose meters for eligible patients at its different health centres throughout the country, reported Gulf Times.
Glucometers are used to determine the level of glucose concentration in blood, which allows patients to avoid complications caused by uncontrolled hyperglycemia in the long term, in addition to any short term complications.
“The PHCC is working on a strong and integrated health system that works according to scientific principles and in line with Qatar National Vision 2030. The PHCC is witnessing a qualitative leap in the health services provided at its centres,” said PHCC’s Executive Director of Operations Dr Samya Al Abdulla.
She said PHCC had signed a joint agreement with the Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) to help provide glucometers throughout the country, according to Qatar Tribune.
While access to these devices was available only through HMC earlier, it will now be available at PHCC centres and HMC.
PHCC’s Director of Logistics Services Ali Al Mahmoudi said Qataris and residents could receive the device and all related medical supplies from health centres after obtaining the medical evaluation and description of the device by the competent doctor.
