Municipality shut food outlets in Doha and Wakra
At least 11 food outlets were ordered closed by the Doha and Al Wakra municipalities as food and health inspectors intensified crackdown as part of preparations for Eid Al Fitr celebrations, the local Arabic daily Al Arab reported yesterday.
The Doha Municipality has intensified crackdown and expanded its campaign area, especially in the Central Market, inspecting all perishable items, including food, fruits and vegetables being imported from overseas and sourced from local farms.
During inspection and surprise raids, the municipality closed down five food outlets, including a supermarket in the Matar Al Qadeem (Old Airport) Area.
The civic body, which is the country’s largest, also seized and destroyed huge quantities of vegetables and fruits which were found not fit for human consumption.
Other food outlets shut by the municipality included one each in Souq Waqif and Al Jasra, and two cafeterias in the Industrial Area.
The neighbouring Al Wakra Municipality closed down six food outlets in different parts under its jurisdiction.
The outlets were found violating food and health regulations and safety standards.
The daily said the Umm Salal Municipality also stepped up crackdown during Ramadan and in the run-up to Eid festivities.
Inspectors from the municipality, in cooperation with Community Police, conducted surprise raids at several food outlets and cafeterias, including those in malls, hypermarkets and commercial establishments.
The Doha Municipality closed down more than 32 food outlets during the first four months of this year for violating laws related to food and health standards.
Inspectors raided 11,000 shops and detected 768 violations, of which 23 were related to the food monitoring law and 745 involved violation of commercial rules.
Hope they reopen immediately after the required corrections.
