Ministry getting set to enforce labor laws

QatarNews
By QatarNews

The Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs is gearing up to launch raids on companies to check their compliance with provisions of the labour law ahead of some key changes in labour rights anticipated in the country.

Beginning next month, the Inspection Department of the labour ministry is expected to mount raids on a massive scale on companies and their labour lodgings.

The compliance of companies with rules on occupational health and safety, and paying workers’ wages in time, and whether any company has employed runaway workers, are to be checked.

Companies must keep ready salary statements (paid to workers) for the past three months. The salary sheets must be endorsed by the labour ministry.

Labour accommodations will also be checked and companies must ensure that four workers stay in a room of not less than four by four metres in size.

I dont know what these authority understand the word "RAID", if you post in a social networking site or broadsheet this is not a raid, it should call ''NOTICE". Go on raid them & surprise them so they dont have time to escape from their wrongdoings.

Great initiative...atleast something positive to hear and to finally see...but i would like to see action to the claims.... abusing companies should be treated to the name and shame game, a moral will set learning for others.

The lot of employers who are involved in unhealthy practices will find ways to beat the law. Why don't authorities put moles inside companies who can keep them always updated on the inside situation of the companies. It would be easier for them to catch such employers who have no morals.

The Inspection department also should launch surprise raids at Ramada parking as well due to lot of illegal sharing and caring activities going on during weekends with kfc and hala card .........

Indirectly what they are saying is "there may be no changes". They are just trying to investigate and penalize alibaba companies... Which is almost impossible to catch violators... So we are back in square ONE.

sorry piwll...but I guess you didn't get my point. it's not about that salary or procedure you said. This media released by the ministry is what I didn't get. Revealing their plan to raid next month. It just like there is a illegal gambling happening in one room, the policemen arrive and knock the door and shout, ok! tomorrow we will comeback and have a raid. =))

Most of the company the same staff is doing night shift from last 10 years and still continues like in aviation example 2300H till morning 0700h with one week day off which is against the labour law they have to cross check timing sheet also..

As per company they don't care if you are working in the morning or in the night they consider as same ...

They should make surprise visits, rather than informing before visit. most of the companies preparing them selves when they inform.and thats nonsense.

Khalli , Compare it with straight no entry for Asian people by US or European nations , not ready to allow decent & cultured people to set a foot on their soil .............. Let US / EU come forward and fly few thousands out if they are true at heart , unlike their propaganda in the newspapers ........ Sun , 25.05.2014 , 09.29 hrs ....

This must be the final warning....instead of surprising them, posting it on public give more time to the violators to correct their wrong doing.
