Ministry steps up public hygiene campaign
The Ministry of Municipality and Urban Planning has intensified its awareness campaign for public hygiene launched several months ago.
In March, the ministry, in collaboration with Qatargas, started putting up billboards and signages across the country, as well as advertisements in newspapers, magazines and on social media in various languages to raise awareness about public hygiene. The billboards and advertisements bear slogans such as ‘We all see you’ and ‘You are not alone’.
Rules and regulations, including punishment and fines for public hygiene violators, have been set up to ensure cleanliness in public places, says a local Arabic daily.
Littering tissue or waste or spitting on the streets and public areas entail a fine of QR200 while leaving food waste in front of homes, on the roads or in public areas attract a fine of QR100.
Other violations of public hygiene and their fines include:
Hanging clothes, carpets or similar items on the balconies, by the roads or in public areas (QR300)
Leaving felled trees in public areas (QR100),
Discharging water on the streets (QR300),
Leaving animal waste in areas not allocated for it (QR400),
Dumping old materials or equipment on the pavements or in public areas (QR100)
Throwing waste bags in public areas, on the streets or out of the garbage containers (QR500)
Leaving food waste in public parks, on beaches, in public areas or any open spaces (QR100)
Abandoning cars on the streets, sidewalks or in public areas (QR500)
Not covering construction or other materials that may fall on the roads while being transported (QR600)
Washing vehicles in areas not allocated for the purpose (QR100).
Any violator is required to pay the fine within 24 hours and restore the situation at his own expense.
a local driving his land cruiser and in the mid of the street he just opened the his car window and throw a KFC box!!
Before they implement the rules & regulations, they have to start first there personal hygiene. That should be push first in public...!
And the manner of one person is starting from his own self. So how they can follow ‘We all see you’ and ‘You are not alone'? if 'We All smell you & you are not alone'. ...!!!
the billboards are ridiculous, I saw many of them I had no clue what they meant...we all see you, you are not alone???? sooo...:)
As for me rizks, the first time I read that is while i'm driving. The very 1st thing came into my mind it is another campaign by the traffic dept. I thought that maybe in every light post, they set-up speed cams or a CCTV along the high ways. :))
I was in the public toilet due to the urgent nature call and when I was doing the nature call I jus peeped out of the window and read tat "We all see you, you are not alone" I immediately stood up from the WC and was looking around and underneath the washbasin if any CCTV cameras are around or not....:(
Funny thing is...the ads itself is a big question mark(?). It reads like even when you are in a private rm and alone, somebody is watching you....creepy? awooooooo.... =) why not make it a simple ads? like "MAKE QATAR CLEAN & HEALTHY TO LIVE"
Zafirah, Spot on!
sicmunky... nicely said... add to that clothes must be worn fresh everyday... not to repeat the same clothes without washing!
not taking a bath - (QR 500)
taking a bath without using soap/shampoo - (QR 400)
taking a bath using soap/shampoo but not using deodorant after - (QR 300)
taking a bath using using soap/shampoo and deodorant after but wearing smelly clothes - (QR 200)
opening of mouth without brushing teeth -(QR 150)
fair enough???
they are trying to push for this public hygiene campaign but the people doesn't even know what PERSONAL HYGIENE is. Come on...
You're right Mr. or Ms. Price "Education & awareness is much needed before imposing any penality.", and aside from these, instilling discipline in discarding solid or liquid waste to proper disposal areas should be practiced among residents of Qatar (be it local, foreign and expatriate) . Emulating "Good Housekeeping Best Practices" in work sites to our home, our community, our municipality, our city and country can be a catalyst for a Cleaner, Healthier, Safer and Friendlier Environment..."The future depends on what you do today. ― Mahatma Gandhi"
"Leaving animal waste in areas not allocated for it (QR400)".. so all the street cats should be warned not to poop around orelse be ready to get fined...:(

I don't log on to QL on Fridays because I'm busy doing stuff MM. Therefore it's illogical to suggest that I am therefore free to be doing voluntary work. Besides, everywhere I drive I see 100 police cars and lekhweya cars and fazaa cars. There are more than enough police in Qatar to handle this issue.
Fines are very heavy for a common citizen.
Equi, But the problem is they may fight on the choice of place to stand guard , as you mentioned two categories .. hypermarkets & mosques ! .......................................... Sun, 10.08.2014, 10.58 hrs
Equi, Khalli & Fubar never log in QL on Fridays so they can easily volunteer for 4 hours in the evening for the sake of public health & environment protection ........ Sun, 10.08.2014, 10.55 hrs
"WE ALL SMELL YOU"- That's the funniest (and truest) comment I've ever read on this site!
""WE ALL SMELL YOU"- this should be the foremost campaign in Qatar to eradicate bad smelling people in Malls and other public leisure places." - comment of the day. I totally agree...
fm. Be soft , your approach is somewhat draconian.
Khalli , What do mean by nobody in ' nobody cares ' ?
"WE ALL SMELL YOU"- this should be the foremost campaign in Qatar to eradicate bad smelling people in Malls and other public leisure places.
The foreign workers, in their bid to enjoy full freedom, throw out tons of spitting on Doha's street every Friday. There is a need to use the volunteers who could stand at the hyper markets and mosques, at peak time.
These violations list should be on each street with the rates...
