Ministry’s surprise raid brings over 50 violations to light in Sealine area

Officials from the Ministry of Economy and Commerce (MEC) conducted surprise checks at commercial outlets in the Sealine area and have found 56 cases of various consumer violations.

The campaign covered the shops selling tools and equipment for the winter camping season and other necessities of the campers in the area.

They included food outlets, wood shops, eateries, and motorcycle rental shops.

Gulf Times reports that according to the MEC, violations were registered against 20 eateries, 24 motorcycle rental shops, 10 shops selling wood and two outlets selling camping items.

All the violations were regarding inflated prices. The shops had not sought the approval of the entities concerned for increasing the prices.

Further, the violating outlets were obliged by the MEC to modify their pricing list to comply with the set and approved prices by the entities concerned and offer their services and items for all their customers according to the approved standards.

They were also warned not to increase prices without getting the approval. The MEC, in co-operation with the Ministry of Municipality and Urban Planning (MMUP), has granted such outlets temporary licences to offer their services in the Sealine Area for winter campers.

However, motorcycle rental shops were granted permanent licences. All the outlets there were given shops at reduced rental rates, so they could offer campers excellent services at reasonable prices.

Dear if any one know the rates or the MEC can publish the rate will be helpful as these vendor charges much much higher then the price fixed by MEC.

1) Rented Rate for ATB
