Ministry of Interior warns people about hacking risk of WhatsApp accounts

If you are a regular user of social media platform WhatsApp, then there are reasons for you to be careful.
We are living in a time when hacking has almost become normal. While we hear a lot about hacking, most of us live in a bubble thinking it could not happen to us.
However, Qatar’s Ministry of Interior (MoI) has posted a video on their social media accounts warning WhatsApp users in Qatar to be careful of not falling victims to hackers, according to The Peninsula.
ولا تعرض حسابك للإختراق.#الداخلية_قطر pic.twitter.com/LMzE9DccXU
In the Arabic language video, the Ministry says that some users have complained of receiving a message from strange numbers with a link mentioning ‘call me' or another one saying ‘please click the link to see the content.’
When one clicks the link, hackers will get through to the phone and gain access to the phone’s contacts. Using this, the hacker will then be able to send messages through to the user’s WhatsApp groups or any other contacts using the account,” the video elaborated.
Preventive measure
The MoI suggested using the two-step verification process to make one’s WhatsApp account much safer. They also explained a step-by-step verification process to ensure double protection.
1) Open your WhatsApp and go to ‘settings’
2) Go to ‘account’
3) Tap on two-step verification
4) Click ‘enable’ the two-step verification
5) Enter a 6-digit PIN, Which you’ll be asked for when you register your phone number with WhatsApp
6) Add an email address to your account which will be used to reset your PIN if you forget it and safeguard your account
The MoI added that if one’s WhatsApp account is hacked, he or she can get in touch with the ‘Combating Electronic Crimes Department’ at 66815757 or 2347444.
Hackers know very well how to do their work efficiently and sometimes you wouldn’t even imagine and they hacks your social media apps before you get to know. Same has been happened with WhatsApp that some hackers have hacked the contacts list of the users by trolling them and dragging them in their prey. Like sometimes there is this message call me or tap this link for further info and when the users follow the instructions he or she falls into the trap. For the sake of precautions, it is better to keep in mind some things so you wouldn’t fall for this trap. As initial step just open your WhatsApp and go to settings, then Go to account and press on the option that says two-step verification. Now press the option of ‘enable’ the two-step verification and enter a 6-digit PIN. This pin will be asked for when you register your phone number with WhatsApp. Explore more by visiting https://www.cocospy.com/blog/hack-whatsapp-by-phone-number.html. As last step add an email address to your account which will be utilized to reset your PIN in case you forget it and protect your account. Another precaution can be this that don’t browse the online links that are available because most of them have some kind of malware that can become the reason for hacking your phone.
