MEC warns consumers against falling for fraudulent, misleading advertisements
Sometimes, when you go out shopping, you are bombarded with series’ of offers, by different shops, giving you fantastic, too-good-to-be-true deals.
More often than not, you give in to temptation and fall for the deal, only to find much later that you had been swindled.
Qatar’s Ministry of Economy and Commerce (MEC) is taking such cases quite seriously and has issued advices on fraudulent and misleading advertisements for various consumer products, reported Gulf Times.
The MEC has strictly warned retailers against posting inaccurate information labels on the products on display, aimed at tricking or luring the consumers into buying such things.
The MEC has also asked consumers to be wary while buying things through telephone calls, especially from companies that do not have known headquarters. They should also exercise caution while buying products with exaggerated descriptions, according to Qatar Tribune.
Extra caution should also be taken when it comes to low-priced products as its quality may be suspect or it may even be counterfeit.
Another serious risk factor is concerning unlicensed products, such as cosmetics, weight loss drugs and other similar products, that could have bad consequences for consumers.
