Law to regulate all charity events in Qatar

Officials of leading charity organisations in Qatar have welcomed the new law regulating charitable activities in the country, saying it will help increase transparency as well as the confidence of donors in the organisations.
The law brings all charitable activities in the country under the direct monitoring of the newly established regulatory authority.
They believe charity work in Qatar will get a boost with the establishment of the authority with extensive powers.
“Transparency has become a prominent feature of charity work in Qatar. This new law will help charities work together and coordinate their activities,” Al Sharq quoted Aid Al Qahtani, managing director of Sheikh Thani bin Abdullah Foundation for Humanitarian Services (RAF) as saying.
Yousuf bin Ahmed Al Kuwari, executive director of Qatar Charity, said the new law will produce positive results.
“This law will give the authority the power to monitor charities but at the same time boost confidence of donors in charity organizations,” said Al Kuwari.
Saeed Mudakar Al Hajri, executive director of Jassim and Hamad bin Jassim Charity, said the law will promote charitable work and called for setting up a database of charitable activities.
“When we work under one umbrella it will make the work more fruitful, especially at this time when more people are in need of support in several conflict zones,” said Dr Mahmoud Al Samman of Al Asmakh Charity.
The directives given to charities in Qatar over the past few years have helped the organisations reach out to the needy all over the world, said Hammad Abdul Khader Al Sheikh, director general of Islamic Dawah Organisation.
