Kuwait's statement 'an important and positive step': Lolwah Al Khater
The statement from Kuwait's Foreign Minister and acting Minister of Information Sheikh Ahmed bin Nasser Al Sabah yesterday, which confirmed that fruitful discussions have taken place to reach a final agreement and resolution of the Gulf crisis, has been well received by several top-ranking officials.
In his statement, the Kuwaiti Minister had affirmed that all the parties involved in the discussions expressed their concern for regional stability aimed at achieving the best for the peoples of the GCC and the countries.
In a statement to Al Jazeera, Qatar's Foreign Minister and Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Lolwah Al Khater welcomed the Kuwaiti statement.
The statement "puts us to the first step of the road to resolve (the crisis) and it is an important and positive step," she said.
"The discussions in the past were intended to try to put in place a general framework for talks and reconciliation. We are looking forward to completing them in the upcoming period so as to arrive at an end for this crisis," HE Al Khater said.
"Such discussions should continue with good and sincere intentions on the basis of mutual respect while upholding the security and sovereignty of each country and adopting a constructive and positive approach in a way that puts the interests of the GCC people on the top," AlKhater added.
She further mentioned that Qatar is moving ahead with the talks "on the basis of mutual respect, any solution for GCC crisis should preserve the sovereignty, independence and security of each country putting on top the security and welfare of GCC people."
The statement from Kuwait came yesterday shortly after His Excellency Qatar’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani confirmed that there has been movement toward finding a solution to the Gulf crisis.
“Right now, there is movement that we hope will put an end to this crisis,” the Qatari minister had revealed.
“We believe the end of the crisis is important for the security of the region and for [the] sake of our people. This crisis needs to end based on mutual respect and the rights of all people of the Gulf,” he had stressed.
Statement from Saudi Arabia
Saudi Arabia's foreign minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan yesterday expressed hope that the Kuwaiti and US mediation efforts to resolve the Gulf crisis may reach a successful end.
"We’ve made significant progress in the last few days," the minister is quoted to have said by Al Jazeera.
“We hope that this progress can lead to a final agreement which looks in reach, and I can say that I am somewhat optimistic that we are close to finalising an agreement between all the nations in the dispute to come to a resolution that we think will be satisfactory to all,” he said.
