Kahramaa restores power at Pearl-Qatar
After a whole night of darkness, power has finally been restored in the Pearl-Qatar. Kahramaa has been keeping the public updated on a regular basis about the efforts being taken to bring back the power.
Since early morning yesterday, Pearl-Qatar has been experiencing a power failure, causing outrage and inconvenience to the residents and the business spots of the island.
While more on this could be read in our news post titled, “Power failure at Pearl-Qatar making life harder for residents and businesses”, approximately an hour ago Kahramaa tweeted confirming that power is back in the island.
Power has been restored to all areas affected by the outage in @ThePearlQatar. Thank you for your patience. #KAHRAMAA

The electricity and water provider has been working the whole night to restore power and further tweeted many on-site updates including the installation of cables.

It has been revealed that the cause for the power failure is due to roadwork on Al-Shamal road that had damaged a cable in the main network feeding the island.

Actually there were 2 cables, but one was being relocated and the contractor had just started doing that, it takes about 1 week. So there was only 1 operating cable at that time.
Also, I heard that Kahramaa is constructing a second feeder to come from the tip of the island. Should be live in 1 year.
With respect to the single entrance, this was the plan from UDC and their design consultant. The road design is also dangerous, because it goes under the round about and thus about 5 m under sea level, and so could flood blocking the main exit of The Pearl. A bridge was suggested during the preliminary design but rejected by UDC.
Mayhem, spot on! Some sort of ring main or a diverse routing in case 1 cable was damaged. I saw a report on another site mentioning the fact there's also only 1 route in / out of the Pearl too and now this could be an issue if anything happened to the road!
Light bulb moment for the planning dept.
It was Karma-aaaaH :O(
I don't understand how come 1 cable created this problem. There are ALWAYS 2 cables, especially on the 132kV.
However congratulations to Kahramaa for a fast job. Some Electrical engineers were warning me that it might take 2-3 days at least
