Indian government files mercy plea for two nationals on death row
India’s foreign ministry on Thursday said it had filed a mercy petition with Qatar for two nationals who were awarded death penalty for murdering a woman four years ago, reported Hindustan Times.
The Indian Embassy in Doha filed the mercy petition with Qatar’s Foreign Ministry regarding the death penalty of Subramanian Alagappa and Chelladurai Perumal for further action. This was disclosed by Indian Ministrry of External Affairs spokesperson Vikas Swarup.
Qatar had recently turned down a plea by the Indian Embassy to overturn the death penalty awarded to the duo, but commuted the life term awarded to the third accused, Sivakumar Arasan, to 15 years jail term.
Brit, By punishing these guys won't bring any change to the departed soul ......... Let these guys regret their act for some time and that's all .......... ......... There are millions of the people who do not do any good for the society even after living here for 100 years ......... they never give smile to anybody, they never offer a cup of tea to anybody , they never offer a single biscuit to anybody ..................
mohdata: You're right. This happens, but i don't agree with it. I believe that it is insulting to the victims
Brit: It's something all governments generally do; anytime citizens are in trouble - even of their own making - the govt tries to help in any way they can; you of course know how hard the American or the British govts work to help minimise the pain for nationals caught drink driving here or smuggling drugs through brutal Latin countries' airports. They do their bit even for their less savoury people :-)
So here's my question - If they have been found guilty after due process , then why should the government ask for clemency or leniency ?
