If little tornadoes visit Qatar again, be safe first and record later

When you think tornadoes, one of the first examples that may come into your mind is the one in the movie Twister. But tornadoes need not always be that big. Just look at this video that we shared on Facebook on Wednesday.

This particular video was taken somewhere in Al Khor. Qatar saw more than one tornado, as a prelude to the rain. Several people on social media also documented the phenomenon.

Although the tornadoes were relatively small, we should consider ourselves lucky that it formed away from residential areas. Had it gone into places where people live, things could have taken a turn for the worse.

There are good chances that these twisters were actually ‘gustnados,’ which are tornadoes that are formed on the leading edge of a thunderstorm. Though they are usually weak and short-lived, it could still be deadly.

Fortunately, no one was harmed. Keeping our fingers crossed that it remains that way.

If you see another twister, make sure you are out of its way before fishing out your mobile phones and recording it. Please be careful out there, people.
