Some commuters were in for a nightmare whern more than a hundred motorists were involved in road accidents yesterday morning.

Heavy fog and careless driving led to 113 traffic accidents Tuesday morning, according to a statement from Ministry of Interior (MoI).

No deaths or serious injuries were reported in these accidents, which took place in Al-Khor Coastal Road and Shamal Road mainly at Umm Qarn Intersection.

"The competent authorities in the Interior Ministry have taken many necessary preventative measures to prevent more accidents. Patrols were deployed on many roads to stop traffic movement temporarily where necessary and to enhance safety measures in some areas that saw dense fog. Patrols also moved the damaged cars from the highway and then helped return the traffic to normal'" the statement added. [The Peninsula]

Motorists had to struggle through the morning this morning as well.

The authorities urged all motorists to follow safety measures and follow guidelines while driving in thick fog or rain.

- Allow more distance between vehicles than normal circumstances, avoid passing and overtaking, no matter what the speed of other vehicle is.

- If the fog is too dense to continue, don't hesitate to pull completely off the road and try to park your vehicle on the right side of the road safely.

- Don't use high-beam lights or hazard lights while driving as hazard lights are meant for only emergency stopping. Instead use fog lights and low beam headlights.

Hvae you got any tips for driving in the fog?

Try to do this with the Law of Gravity. If you succeed, you may use your hazard light all the time.

And what kind of idiots are out there who think they can negotiate the laws.

The LAWS in Qatar are negotiable. Ha, ha, ha. Only in Qatar! What kind of laws are these?

Someone just advisd that:

You use right indicator if turning right

You use left indicator if turning left

You use hazard lights (both indicators) for going straight...

Who can argue with this logic :O(

How about using hazardous light when u take reverse ?

That rule is also withdrawn ? Any guys who got licences recently expect you to reply for this. Who is using indicator when change the lane even though it is a rule here ? but still it workout everyday here, only few who doesn't want to forget the rule uses indicator.

If it is a rule, we have to FOLLOW it.

@Nanofilms, in olden days, there wasn't heavy traffic and also cars rarely came or did not have V6, V8, V10 V12 or turbo, twin turbo and supercharged. Also, there weren't many people, who could afford cars in those days. Now Qatar has too much cars too much traffic. Get the point! Start using your noodles my friend and obey the law!

These rules of not using hazard light has been created few years back. But olden time cars never had fog lights as what today cars have. so how did they manage then.

@mahi_casa: oviously, you are one of those idiots on the road, who thinks you are doing the right thing because the situation allows you to do it, but actually you are potentially endangering other motorists on the road. There is a reason why the traffic authorities issued a warning not to use the hazard lights while driving in the fog. Check online and read!

So many negative comments have been written about people who use hazard lights during the fog. Well, it is true that as per driving rules, it should be used only when the car is parked, but the fact is that using hazard light during fog greatly improves the visibility of the car for those behind. It is very difficult to see cars which do not use hazard light during fog. I personally don't see any hazard in using hazard light in foggy conditions especially if you are driving slow because of the weather. Drivers who notice hazard light should be cautious and the first reaction should be to assess whether the vehicle is parked or slow moving. Of course changing lane with the hazard light on should not be done.

For all the drivers using Hazard Lights during Foggy Day...PLS STOP!

Driving tips during foggy weather

Use hazard lights only in case of an emergency, such as if your vehicle is on a full stop, or if you pull over to the side of the road.

Use your fog lights during foggy weather. The use of headlights is also advisable, but refrain from using a high beam since this can affect the vision of the motorist in front of you.

During extremely heavy foggy conditions, it is better to stop the car and wait until the fog clears before continuing driving.

BTW, UAE doesn't support drivers using their hazard lights on during fog as well

@boredman, there are lot of idiots on the road, who change lanes while having their fog lights on...meaning that the person behind is not getting the proper indication from the car in front and don't know what they might do. Driver in front with hazard light on, may have put the indicator to change lane (due to common driving habits), but may have forgotten that he has been having his hazard lights on whole time, so while changing lane, he may not have signal the driver at the back properly...the driver at the back may have been on course and starting to speed and that idiot driver makes a sudden change in lane, which may cause accident or push the driver out of lane. Now do you understand the danger!

By Boredman• 20 Jan 2016 13:13

It is practice in UAE to put on the hazardous light if you are about to stop while driving.

Yes it is a warning signal to the driver at back. If you follow this rule here , people who behind are blaming us. They are afraid of seeing hazardous light and change the line immediately. It is so funny.

But personally i feel , what is wrong in putting the hazardous light in foggie time ?

Zackm I noticed that too ...

I remember when I got enrolled in the driving school after messing up my given attempts I was told in those theory lessons that driving with hazard lights is wrong they are stationary lights to worn motorists of a an emergency halt ! so people should know this unless they are suffering with their IQ and subsequently dumb as a rock!

Careless and irresponsible driving with no consideration to the public are the issues here, although the contribution factors does include driving test to enable 'those' driver/speeder.

MoI already issued statement to say not to turn the hazard lights on while driving. If you already turn your front head lamps on, the lights behind will be on. Brit don't you think that this is more about carelessness and speeding habits , especially in risky weather ???

nothing to do with driving tests !

simply some people still act like a moron on the roads.

Surely this proves that the driving tests are too simple and it is too easy to get a license in Qatar. Fine the lot of them and send a message to all drivers.
