First phase of COVID-19 vaccination campaign in Qatar sees good turnout

Six days ago, Qatar kickstarted the first phase of its largest vaccination drive ever.
With the Ministry of Public Health's (MoPH) approval of the Pzifer-BioNtech COVID-19 vaccine, the country began vaccinating healthcare personnel most at risk of infection as well as other people who fall within the priority groups.
During the first phase, priority will be given to people over 70 years old, adults in chronic care, and home care facilities, healthcare personnel most at risk of infection, and people over 16 years of age with severe chronic diseases.
Hundreds of individuals, including some top officials from Qatar's health sector and community dignitaries, have already received the first shot of the COVID-19 vaccine.
The COVID-19 vaccine requires a second shot 21 days after the first one.
As the nationwide campaign continues, MoPH highlighted that the first phase of the COVID-19 vaccination drive in Qatar is witnessing an increasing turnout of citizens, residents that fall within the priority groups.

In a series of tweets, the Ministry said that many have praised Qatar's tireless efforts in the battle against COVID-19 pandemic.
From the beginning of the pandemic, the country has ensured the availability of healthcare facilities to test, treat, and manage patients of COVID-19.
With Qatar's dedicated efforts, it became one of the first countries in the region to secure the COVID-19 vaccine and is now administering it to the population completely free of charge.
The dignitaries have thanked and appreciated His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, HE the Minister of Public Health Dr Hanan Mohamed Al Kuwari and all the medical, nursing and support staff who continue to combat the pandemic on the frontlines.
Minister of State HE Sheikh Hamad bin Suhaim Al Thani, Minister of State HE Abdulrahman bin Hamad Al Attiyah, and HE Sheikh Faisal bin Qassim Al Thani were among the dignitaries who got the first shot of the vaccine in the last few days.
The first phase of the vaccination drive will run until January 31, 2021.
Qatar's vaccination strategy will enable everyone to be vaccinated against COVID-19 in 2021, but for now with a limited quantity of vaccines, priority is a must for people most at risk from severe complications and death from the virus. This was announced at a press conference held by MoPH last week.
