Fire contained at under-construction Tawar Mall, no injuries
A fire broke out on the second floor of the under-construction Tawar Mall in Al Duhail area on Wednesday. However, no one was injured in the incident, a Tawar Mall press statement said.
According to the mall’s management, the fire was concentrated in a small area and was put out successfully by the Civil Defence.
The Ministry of Interior tweeted: "Civil Defence contains a fire at an under-construction shopping complex near Dahl Al Hamam. No casualties."
"Tawar Mall is grateful to the authorities for prompt evacuation of construction workers and the staff from the site and prevention of casualties and serious damage in the fire incident.
"I wish to express my appreciation to the authorities for their professional support that ensured safety of everyone," said Jassim bin Jabr Sultan Tawar Al Kuwari, the Chairman of Tawar Mall.
"It was a small fire and was immediately controlled. Construction will go on at the site without any change in the schedule. Tawar Mall is well-equipped to deal with such accidents and protect the mall. The Civil Defence plays a major role in providing the mall with state-of-the-art safety and security systems to ensure safety of our visitors," Al Kuwari added.
The upcoming Tawar Mall will have more than 312 shops and restaurants. The mall will offer the opportunity to visitors and tourists to shop from a bunch of the best international brands.
The total gross area of the mall is 300,958 sqm. It is divided into four floors and two basements for accessible cars parking.
