Incidents of people stealing from their employers in Qatar seem to be on the rise.

The Doha Criminal Court recently sentenced an expatriate man to three years in jail and fined him QR20,000 for stealing QR500,000 from the account of his Qatari employer, reported Gulf Times. The court also asked the man to return the money he stole from his employer.

The fraud happened after the Qatari employer blindly trusted his employee with the paperwork for availing a loan to the tune of QR2m for purchasing a hotel in Doha.

The Qatari employer then signed the documents without filling them in first. It is unclear whether the loan was availed or not. However, a year later, the Qatari employer received a bank statement which showed that his credit account was used for various transaction, including purchase of jewelry. He also found that QR200,000 had been credited to another account.

Investigations into the matter quickly implicated the expatriate worker.

Kashif: Sadly, this is all too common and nothing gets done. Part of the problem is people paying for NOC.. Hopefully, the new labour law will help curtail this practice

For one cheque bounces by employee is jail then why not jail for one salary delay by employer. Justice is justice for all

Hi sir, what would be for employers who deliberately cheated employees and took big amounts for NOC and playing with their blood money for gratuities and due to this unforeseen employees got cheque bounces for rental and bank loans. Then on complain police immediately catches the employees and put in jail then court hearings. Like this many expat s are suffering but they are afraid for survival since they are with their families. Behind all this is only employer who didnot give employees salaries on time with whatsoever ever reason but results only is destryoing expats careers, result in jail without innocent hearings. This is becoming very normal now a days.
