An expatriate who used a forged engineering degree to officially change his profession has landed in trouble, local daily The Peninsula reported.

A criminal court has sentenced a Bangladeshi national to three years in jail in absentia for submitting a forged engineering degree from a famous university in his country.

The convict also forged the seal of Qatar's embassy in Dhaka, Bangladesh's capital city, to attest the fake degree and put a forged signature of an embassy official as well.

The crime was detected when the man took the forged degree of Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology in Bangladesh to Qatar's foreign ministry here for counter-attestation.

A woman staffer of the ministry suspected foul play and kept the degree and filed a complaint. The forensic laboratory confirmed that the seal of Qatar's embassy put on the man's B Tech degree was forged.

A police complaint was filed and the Public Prosecution, after questioning the convict, filed charges in court. The convict admitted during interrogation that he had got the forged degree after paying $275 (QR1,000) to someone in Dhaka.

Appearing as a witness, the woman employee of the foreign ministry told the prosecution that when the convict handed the degree for attestation, she suspected foul play looking at the seal of the Qatari embassy in Dhaka.

The man told the prosecution that his intention to forge the degree was to officially change his profession for personal benefits. [The Peninsula]

People return to this act, because humanity is not considered, in this case, this means that Only highly educated personnel are allowed to bring families on board, what about, highly skilled technicians, or majorly experienced personnel, or Diploma holders, on the counters, they are immediately rejecting such workforce, why, are they not human which deserve to live with there families, if they earn a wage which is illegible to live in the country, than these people have the right to bring there people to live with them, this is why the Poor guy is putting himself in Risk by fabricating a Certificate, the only reason is due to the need of living with family, Humanity shall be considered as per my own opinion, I am one of those who also suffer from Family Residency Visa Rejections, hence my family is here since 3 months on a Visit Visa, unfortunately my Child will miss out on KG-2, "Talk about education encouragement", and my wife is refusing to go back to our country, she says that she cant bare live without her flock and that she will proceed with the tutoring of our child at home.

Happy living everyone :)

Well Done, Good Job...Foreign ministry.

For this kind of forge, I think 01 month jail and a ban to re-enter in Qatar for 4-5 years is enough.

There are more other crimes which needs to be address, which are yet been overlooked.

Has anyone commenting here gone through this process, It's a nightmare. The guys running the accreditation process have no understanding of the process of qualification other than their own narrow systems. Part Time degrees, distance learning, sandwich courses, apprenticeships etc., may produce a much better engineer than the 4 year degree from Cairo or wherever, but that is not understood in Qatar.

In these circumstances it is understandable that people resort to fake degrees, when their own superior qualifications are rejected.

put yourself in others shoes before condemning people. Real Engineers quickly detect if incompetent people fake their qualifications.

In these circumstance it is not surprising

Bravo - Qatar govt should be take action all over the Qatar that is all the Engineers Level & Doctors Level are they Real or FAKE... I believe 75% will come out Fake. Engineer means not like 20% knowledge and Degree Certificate, the person should have 80% Talent on him at least so we can call them engineer... Good Job Qatar Govt

That's why I always tell ... when you work just concentrate on that only ...... never try too hard to carry your dependents on you back .... you will get tired one day ................. ........ your professional life will suffer for your family members who has no role to get you up in the work sphear ...... but often drags you down to dirt like the guy in this case ............

Maybe 6-months in jail and a ban to re-enter in Qatar is enough. funny though that there are crimes needs a severe punishments, yet it has been overlooked. but as you said...that's their law, and who we are to question such judgement.

Dear Knor,

There are some sentences fixed for a certain kind of crime's. If the Govt. start feeling pity and deport him without any punishments, then there will be lot of people doing this forgery as well without fear of punishment, may be this same guy will make a forged passport and come back again. There should be punishment for each n every crime or else there wont be a fear.

Good Job done ! All these kind of fake qualified people have to be identified and arrested. 3 years jail punishment is fair as deportation only not enough to avoid the forging.

Some People are actually working as engineers but do not get ENGINEER VISA and are thrown away outside the benefits that should be enjoyed under a normal engineer profession.

I petty them as they where just pushed to resort on this kind of falsification of documents just to have a chance to work abroad for a better living of their family. By putting him on jail for 3 years is for me is too much. Maybe a deportation is enough already as he has a burden of guilt and shame to carry on his entire life.

Good job for the ministry staff. but I still hope that the government will also accept complaints from witnesses who knew someone to be claiming Engineers whereas they are not. Here in my company a lot of people claiming to be Engineers and so proud of using such terms as title in their correspondences
