An attempt to smuggle 6.4kg of marijuana through the Hamad International Airport (HIA) has been stopped by the General Customs Authority (GAC) of Qatar.

It was revealed that the narcotics were found with an Asian traveler who was on a transit at HIA during his flight from his homeland to another GCC country.

Ajab al-Qahtani, director of HIA Customs stated in Gulf Times that, “The GAC officer suspected a bag of the traveller and ordered a full search of his luggage, leading to the discovery of the hidden drug.”

There were 11 packets of illegal drugs in total, all of them wrapped in plastic and concealed among some food items like dried fish and snacks.

While the discovery was referred to the security department and necessary legal actions are to be taken against the traveler, the customs officer who led the investigation was praised and honoured.

GAC president Ahmed bin Ali al-Mohannadi thanked the officer who foiled the smuggling attempt and honoured him for his alertness in discharging his duty. He further affirmed that GAC officers are an import asset for the department and protects the country against such harmful attempts.

GAC further tweeted about the foiled attempt of drug smuggling in its Twitter account as follows-

Greenie FTW!! Vacationing in Qatar (1st time) from California & not being able to bring organic anxiety medication posed a huge problem on day one for a particular person in our group – and still a smaller problem for the rest of us. I’ve never gotten weed from an online forum… seems super sketchy – but I thought I’d try anyways. I e-mailed Greenie ( haha420kush@gmail com ) and within less than ONE HOUR all of our problems were solved. Of course prices were affordable – BUT THE BUD WAS JUST AS GOOD!!! I’m telling you —- strait chronic. IN Qatar! Greenie e-mailed me back ASAP, had a great way of getting me what I needed and even threw in some roll papers and a blunt for good business! So what did I do?? – called him again. Went through the sack another 1 oz time (haha typical) and needed more, so Greenie pulled through yet again. AND WITH MORE ROLL PAPERS!!! Greenie feels like my neighborhood “guy” – trustworthy and professional. I think some posts here are from unreliable vendors trying to rip off people, cuz you can tell this guy isn’t trying to rip anyone off – he’s actually running a legit business. E-MAIL GREENIE ( haha420kush@gmail com ) IF YOU’RE DEBATING IT, cuz I DID & I WAS IRIE IN ONE HOUR!! XD

Yes the second part is about religion and the first part about weed; together, it's a joke :-) and I don't cheech and Chong myself but have had my fair share of exposure to the whole party scene, while I was a student in India and the UK, with many friends who have made it a way of life haha...a funny little side story; the first stranger that spoke to me as I exited Heathrow, asked me if I would like to score some weed...a precursor of things to come,I should have known :-)

Accha: Bro read yup on it.... In spite of all the training and technology, the vast majority of drugs get through airports, seaports and land borders, with the cases we read about, being the minority... And hey amneo was joking... He's talking about getting stoned with the weed in the first half of his joke :-)

Yes they work on tip offs. The staff are trained to recognise signs like the way a person looks, walks , acts , fidgets etc.

They are also aided by facial recognition systems and software which can identify possible criminal intent

mohdata: I guess that is somewhat difficult for nine people to slip through. There is the anti-narcotics force present in my country which has its "informers" keeping an eye on drug movements. Next are the custom people at the port of exit who keep an eye. Lastly, there are custom authorities at the port of entry. These people in uniform are trained to stay one step ahead of such drug smugglers. They are equipped with modern gadgets, a very sharp sense and a keen eye that make it possible for them to apprehend drug smuggling. Having said that, yes it was great job to catch this person at the port and seize his consignment. I salute the authorities.

I am wondering how the officer suspect him among thousands of passengers. Well done.

Well done to the authorities....

I do wish that they would elaborate on where the "traveller" was coming from and going to ... What harm would it do to disclose this info ?
