Desperation of Schools
Most schools in Qatar, especially international schools, are “desperately” searching for suitable buildings where they can open new branches to cope with the high demand for seats and not enough rooms to accommodate them.
With safety measures so high and security implements are strict and minimum area for a school is high, schools find it nearly impossible to find a proper place to open a branch for their school as either there are no large enough buildings for it or there are large buildings but not complying the measures or when the proper specifications are found it is too expensive to rent.
One of the school’s principal told Gulf Times “Even if we rent a building, a lot of maintenance work has to be completed to make it suitable for taking classes. This may take several months. Then, we have to get clearance from various departments. All these (things) take months and we have to pay the monthly rent through this period. As rents for such buildings are in the range of hundreds of thousands, it is not a feasible idea to rent them and keep them for a long period for maintenance and clearance,”
So basically even if they get everything properly done then they need to cover the expenses with unreasonable Tuition fees and by any other means such as enrolment exams and seat reservations and so one of parents that i met had told me that “she has spent over 4000 QAR just to apply for different schools in doha and none of them turned out had enough seats so her child is on the waiting list”
