Demand for taxis in Qatar higher than ever

The demand for taxi services in the country has grown over the years and is expected to increase further in the coming years, the operator of the latest taxi franchisee of Mowasalat has stressed.

Capital Taxis, whose grey-roofed vehicles hit the roads recently, is run by the Ibin Ajayan Group, a prominent automobile distributor in Qatar.

Speaking at the launch of the new taxi service at the firm’s compound in the Industrial Area, Ibin Ajayan Group chairman Mohamed bin Mehdi al-Ahbabi said the company has several years’ experience in the automotive sector - spanning almost five decades - and understands the customers’ requirements better than others in the industry.

“We are not only distributing some of the top-notch brands in the heavy, medium and light automotive segments, but also have an excellent workshop and maintenance department, backed by a skilful and trained workforce,” said al-Ahbabi.

The entrepreneur said the company has done proper research while studying the growing demand for taxis in the country, which is why the operations of Capital Taxis will be different from others.

The group chairman explained that their vehicles would be available in adequate numbers in the coming weeks wherever there is a demand for taxis.

“I understand that there is a growing demand for taxis in places such as Rayyan, Muaither, Wukair, Rayyan, Wakrah and Al Khor. Our cars will operate in such areas to meet the requirements of customers,” said al-Ahbabi.

Capital Taxis hit the roads on Thursday with the first batch of 50 Skoda cars. The company will add another 450 vehicles over the next few months.  Skoda cars are distributed in the local market by the Ibin Ajayan Group.

Recalling the growth witnessed by Qatar over the last 10 years, consultant CEO for the Capital Taxis project G Ravi Pillai said the country - which had only less than 600,000 people more than a decade ago - is now home to more than 2.1mn people.

“The population figures stand testimony to the fact that there is a growing demand for taxis in the country,” said Pillai.

Customers can also book cabs run by Capital Taxis through Mowasalat’s toll-free number 4458888.
