Court rulings in Qatar to be expedited under new authority

The Supreme Judicial Council has announced the formation of a new authority that will up the pace of court procedures to reach verdicts.
As reported by The Peninsula, established under the framework of Law No. 3 of 2019, the new body will ensure speedier rulings and limit red tape in court.
Chaired by one of the judges of the Court of Appeals and supported by a panel of other judges, the authority will also comprise police officers and personnel.
Under this framework, the judge will hold the exclusive right to settle each dispute.
According to the law, government entities are obligated to present the documents required by the judge within the limit of a week and a certain case will not be adjourned more than once for the same reason. No adjournment will last more than two weeks, according to the Gulf Times.
The SJC also updated a new technology-related mechanism. The quorum for magistrate courts of first instances increased to not more than QR 500,000, in comparison to QR 30,000 in the previous version of the law.
As for courts of first instance with a full bench, the quorum was hiked to QR 500,000 compared to QR100,000 in the previous version of the law, reported Qatar Tribune.
In a bid to update its existing mechanism, the Council is developing an electronic link for the implementation of sentences. This would link the new department with the relevant government bodies to implement certain verdicts.
