Consumers complain of increased prices at central market
The central market is seeing a “sudden” rise in prices of vegetables and fruits just a few weeks before the start of the holy month of Ramadan, local Arabic daily Arrayah has reported.
While a box of tomato is sold for QR20, beans cost QR25 and a 1kg box of lettuce QR35. Besides, the price of one box of Egyptian orange is QR50 and African lemon (15kg) QR120.
This situation has led some consumers to accuse the traders of exploiting the situation in the run-up to Ramadan to make maximum profits, the report states.
The traders argue that the increased prices are the result of factors prevailing in countries from where such agricultural products are imported, including changing weather conditions that affect production and lead to a rise in prices.
They also point out that the hike is due to relatively low supplies, claiming that the rates are still reasonable and usual for this time of the year, the report adds.

Everybody wants to increase prices, the landlords, the taxis, buses, house agents, shop keepers, Schools and now vegetables market. Does any one care about increasing our salaries? Very few care for humanity in todays world. Its all about making money, no matter what it takes.
