Car dealers in Qatar to reduce maintenance charges

Following a government initiative where vehicle owners can repair or get their cars serviced within the warranty period at any workshop of their choice, automobile dealers have begun to reduce maintenance charges.

According to a recent tweet by the Ministry of Economy and Commerce (MEC), Saleh Al Hamad Al Mana Company has reduced maintenance charges on all their Nissan and Infiniti vehicles by 23 to 48 percent. Other car dealers are expected to do the same.

“The company has presented a new reduced price list to the competent authorities at the ministry in preparation for implementing the new prices starting from April 10, the ministry said”, reports The Peninsula.

The list has been approved by the ministry.

According to a nine-clause initiative launched by the ministry recently, consumers are free to have maintenance or repair works at any certified workshop of their choice with no effect on the warranty.

The new terms apply not only to showroom-fresh vehicles but also to those that are old but with unexpired warranties.

The move is also intended to provide an opportunity to specialized workshops to improve their performance efficiently and effectively, in addition to reducing the prices of their services.

The warranty terms that were applied by local car agencies prior to the implementation of the nine-clause initiative had required vehicle owners to conduct maintenance and repair works at the car agency’s workshop.

This had previously contributed to a rise in the price of maintenance services in the country, said the ministry.

The ministry has urged all consumers to properly select from among the available options and in the case of having maintenance and repair works at third-party workshops, to retain invoices of maintenance and repair works as well as the spare parts and materials used, to present them to the car agency to show that repair works were carried out in accordance with the manufacturer’s requirements.

The ministry should send inspectors to check these establishments

When I told them that i know about the flyer that MEC has published, they immediately told that they think there will be 25% discount on parts and that they will have a meeting with regards to that memo. They are still fooling those people who don't know about this article who have serviced their cars from yesterday.

The only answer is to report these dealers to the ministry and hope they take action.

Mayhem: While I agree it should not matter; the article is talking about warranty and you are talking about extended warranties... Couldn't hurt to get it clarified by the authorities....

Why not report these dealers to the ministry. It will help us all.

They are lying!

But still some dealers are saying that maintaining the vehicle in a different facility will void the extended warranty. Is that true?
