Bounced checks top Qatari court cases
One fifth of the Qatari courts cases in 2013-14 involved cheques issued by people and entities without sufficient balance in their accounts.
About 81,169 cases of different kinds were heard by the courts of all levels from April 2013 to March 2014. Of these, 17,819 or 21.9 percent involved bounced cheques.
The courts settled 17,302 cases of dud cheques, the ratio to the total being 97 percent, local daily The Peninsula reports.
It cited yesterday the Annual Achievement Book released by the Secretariat-General of the Cabinet for 2013-14, providing details. Cases of dud cheques topped the list in terms of type, the book said. The labour court heard 8,537 disputes in the year and settled 3,977.
The court at the Search and Follow-Up Department of the Ministry of Interior which hears cases of violations of the law that regulates entry and exit of foreigners, heard and settled 7,846 cases.
The traffic court heard 3,037 cases and settled 2,817 or 93 percent. The juvenile court heard and settled 167. Some 823 cases were filed in the environment court and were settled. About 80 percent of the 81,169 case were settled, leaving a backlog of only 20 percent.
Appeals in some 522 criminal cases were brought to Qatar's highest court, the Court of Cassation, which settled 323, or 62 percent, of them.
The misdemeanour court of appeals heard 6,286 cases and settled 86 percent of them (5,400), while the lower misdemeanour courts heard 6,629 cases and settled 94 percent of them (6,223).
There were 20,330 civil cases and their disposal ratio was 63 percent. As for the family court, about 5,345 cases were brought and some involved disputes over inheritance.
About 73 percent of the cases were settled, reports The Peninsula.
Simple Solution: Just ban cheques books . Cheques are outdated and easy to forge by criminals.
Partially it may be because of the delay we get our salaries. Some companies pay after 5th when most of us have our rents to be paid by checks on 5th of every month.
