Ban on application of driving licence for certain jobs is temporary, says official

As people living in Qatar will certify, taking a driving license is a very difficult task. Recently, things were made even more difficult when authorities announced that more job categories would be added to the list of people who cannot apply for driving licenses.

There was a big public outcry and now, a top official has clarified that this will only be a temporary measure and would not be continued long term, according to The Penninsula.

The General Directorate of Traffic said that the ban on some job categories would be lifted once infrastructure projects in the country are completed.

“The ban of many job categories to apply for driving license is a temporary decision and not a permanent one. Many roads are still only under constructions and the department excluded some job categories, especially those in which cars are not necessary for their professions, from securing licenses,” General Directorate of Traffic Director Brigadier Mohammed Saad Al Kharji told The Peninsula.

He added that ‘Once the construction of roads is completed, the banned professions will be allowed to apply for driving licenses.’ He said the move was not a ban, but a temporary decision.

The General Directorate of Traffic at the Ministry of Interior had banned around 180 job categories from getting driving licences.
