The Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) announced that auctions will resume at the Al Sailiya Central Market in line with precautionary measures against COVID-19.

The auctions will take place at 50 percent of the market’s capacity, head of occupational health at MoPH Dr Mohammed Ali Mohammed Al Hajjaj mentioned.

In a video shared by the Ministry on its official Twitter page, the official confirmed that the market will hold auctions with all necessary precautionary measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

“All vendors at the Al Sailiya Central Market will undergo regular checks to ensure that they follow COVID-19 precautionary measures, including wearing masks, gloves, having body temperature below 37C and have green status in Ehteraz,” the official said.

The different categories of auctions will be held at varying time slots to manage the number of farmers, merchants and employees within the auction hall.

“As an additional safety measure, there will be physical barriers to separate customers and vendors,” Dr Mohammed mentioned.

Wholesale markets Al Sailiya Central Market were permitted to resume operations earlier in July last year, during the second phase of the gradual lifting of COVID-19 restrictions in Qatar.

The market spans over an area of 78,000 square meters. It comprises 102 shops in the retail section, 50 shops in the wholesale market section coupled with an 8000-square meter auction hall.

The auction hall is dedicated to local and imported fresh produce, cold stores, shops for fish, meat and poultry products, among others.
