
Ashghal allots a mammoth QR18.8bn towards the completion of projects for 2019

Qatar has been going full steam ahead to improve and modernise the road network in the country, and it has been showing excellent results.

Qatar’s Public Works Authority (Ashghal) announced that it had earmarked QR18.8bn for 55 new roads and infrastructure projects for the year 2019, reported Gulf Times.

This amount will be utilised for projects in both new and existing subdivisions, said Ashghal president Dr Saad bin Ahmad Al Muhannadi, during a seminar in Doha yesterday.

He announced during the ‘Third Industry Briefing on Ashghal’s Current and Upcoming Infrastructure Projects in New and Existing Subdivisions.’ He was speaking to construction industry stakeholders and other companies.

During the seminar, Ashghal presented more details on local roads and drainage projects that will be tendered during 2019, in addition to projects that are currently under construction, reported Qatar Tribune.

The Ashghal president also referred to benefits of revisiting the contracts, which emphasised the importance of community outreach to reduce the construction impact on the daily lives of the public and the surrounding environment and increase public awareness.

Saoud Al Tamimi, Roads Projects Department Manager, said Ashghal’s infrastructure and road project plans for 2019 included 32 projects, which are planned to be implemented in the existing and new subdivisions with a total budget of QR15.8bn.
Another 23 projects for developing local roads will be undertaken with a budget of QR3 billion.

He said Ashghal is currently implementing 14 projects serving about 16,000 subdivisions in 10 areas including south Al Wukair, Al Kharaitiyat, Izghawa, Al Ebb, Leabaib, Al Foroush, north Al Nasiriyah, west Al Mashaf and Muaither, with a budget of QR 6.5bn.

Ashghal delivered 15 projects in 2017-2018 in 11 residential areas, including Al Wakra West, Rawdat Al Hamama, Al Mashaf East, and Al Wukair North in addition to road and drainage projects that ultimately intended to serve residents.
