Annual Fast-a-thon
Hyatt Plaza shopping mall’s annual charity initiative Fast-a-thon will take place on July 4 and 5.
The event is organised by Hyatt Plaza in co-operation with Sheikh Thani bin Abdullah al-Thani’s Foundation for Humanitarian Services (RAF).
The proceedings will be donated to the people of Africa.
Fast-a-thon is an initiative that encourages the non-Muslim community in the country to experience fasting one whole day, in order to experience the thirst and hunger of the deprived people in the world and thereby support the poor and needy. Through this campaign, Hyatt Plaza and RAF will donate QR200 to the people of Africa on behalf of every individual who participates in the event.
This year the organisers have also partnered up with the Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC), providing an opportunity for the participants to clarify the health effects of fasting through an interactive session.
“Over the years, Fast-a-thon has turned out to be an event that provides a common platform for people from diverse background and different cultures to come forward, experience fasting and join hands for a noble cause,” said Feroz Moideen, general manager of Hyatt Plaza shopping mall.
“We look forward to an even bigger support from our community this year, as we try to reach out to the greater Africa where more than 239mn people have little or no access to food,” he added.
Hyatt Plaza will also organise an Iftar party for all the registered participants. The Iftar evening will offer free henna painting, face painting for children, and free health checkups organised by PHCC.
Hyatt Plaza will also launch their Ramadan Charity drive on the second day of Fast-a-thon. The charity drive will include an exhibition that demonstrates the grave situation in Africa and will have a donation box in the mall throughout the holy month, where people can donate to make a difference.
Registration is currently open for Fast-a-thon and customers have the option to register through e-mail to: [email protected] or in person at the customer service of Hyatt Plaza. They can also call Hyatt Plaza customer service at 44999666. Participation is only limited to non-Muslims. All participants will be invited for an orientation session on Friday at 4pm at Hyatt Plaza Food Court.
