50% discount on traffic violations extended until July

The 50% discount on traffic fines that was supposed to expire today, has been extended for three more months.

The Ministry of Interior (MoI) announced earlier this year that it will offer a 50% reduction on traffic fines charged before December 31, 2015 to all motorists of Qatar. The discount was to expire today.

However, the traffic authorities have now told the local publication “Al-Sharq” that the reduction has now been extended until July 7, 2016.

This discount is applicable only for fines charged before 2016. However, the violations committed this year will not get this reduction.

Instead, motorists with fines for this year will be given a discount for one month from the date of committing the violation.

Got any pending violations to settle? Make use of the discount period!

Not really, it shows that they are not greedy and care about people. The rduced price is still too much for some people. Repeat offenders need to be dealt with more severely.

The biggest issue is actually mobile phone usage during driving which 90% of drivers do here and the tailgators who think that because they are in LAndcruiser or GMC you need to get off the road for them

omar: I agree that speed cameras are cash cows. However, the fact is that if anyone breaks the law, then they should be punished...

By reducing the punishment, the authorities are sending out the wrong message don't you think

I saved 1300 QAR because of this. Well done. Speed cameras are just money grabbing tools and don't stop accidents.

There is an alternative, brit. Paying nothing means your car will be confiscated and the violator will go to jail.

assume they see it as "encouragement" to pay something rather than nothing

"Motorists with fines for this year will be given a discount for one month from the date of committing the violation." - Why do the put up fines and then discount them? That's hilarious at best.
