The 2018-19 academic year set to begin on August 29

The 2018-19 academic year in Qatar is set to commence on August 29, according to a new calendar approved by the Minister of Education and Higher Education HE Dr Mohammed bin Abdul Wahed al Hammadi.

As per the calendar, the number of school days will increase to 177 (72 for the first term and 105 for the second).Staff attendance for the new academic year will begin on August 27 and students will join classes on August 29, reported Qatar Tribune.

A few days back, it had been announced that registrations at private schools for this academic year would begin on March 1 and run until October 18.

The Ministry of Education and Higher Education said the calendar of the new academic year takes into account the interests of students, teachers and guardians based on a scientific study.

The new calendar features some changes, including a unified vacation time for public and private schools, retaining the mid-second term vacation as well as coordinating with Qatar University (QU) in terms of the school calendar wherein the mid-year and mid second term vacations are considered.

As per the calendar, the mid-first term examinations for grades 1 to 11 (morning school) will start on October 28 and continue until November 6.

The first term final exams for grades 10, 11 and 12 (morning school-adult education) will start on December 5 and go on until December 16.

The first term finals exams for grades 1 to 9 (morning school-adult education) will begin on December 9 and continue until December 16. The mid-term vacation will start from December 23, 2018, until January 3, 2019.

The second term will begin on January 6, 2019, and the supplementary exams (first term) for grades 1 to 11 (morning school-adult education) will start on January 20, 2019, and end on January 24.

The mid-second term examinations for grades 10 and 11 will start on March 26, 2019, and will continue until April 4. Similarly, the mid-second term examinations for grades 1 to 9 will start on March 28, 2019 and continue until April 4, 2019.

The mid-second term vacations will be from April 7 to April 11, 2019. The classes will resume on April 14, 2019.

According to the calendar, the final second term exams for grades 10, 11 and 12 (morning school- adult education) will start on June 12, 2019, and will continue until June 23.

The final second term exams for grades 1 to 9 will start on June 19, 2019, and will go on until June 26.

The academic year end vacation for school staff will start from July 7, 2019 and continue until August 19. 

The school staff attendance for the academic year 2019-20 will start on August 20, 2019, and the students will join the class on August 25, 2019.
