In a huge bust, officials at the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka, Bangladesh, seized around 100 gold bars, weighing a total of 11.6kg, from a Qatar Airways flight.

The officers, acting on a tip-off, searched the aircraft that arrived in Dhaka from Doha and found the gold bars abandoned beneath a passenger seat, according to local newspaper The Daily Star. It was wrapped in red cloth.

However, it is learnt that police have not been able to arrest anyone so far in connection with the smuggling.

It is believed that had the bars not been seized, anyone with a security pass — customs officials, cleaners, food suppliers and staff — could have taken it out of the airport at any time.

If in the past, gold came from countries like Dubai, Malaysia and Singapore, it is now being routed through Oman and Qatar.

Curious why the "Well done to the authorities"? They received a tip. Open and shut case. Now if they can catch whoever put the gold there, then well done.

I found it strange that Police got a tip about it, and in the same time the smuggler dumped it in the same time.

Really, they need to catch this smuggler coz he might do it again and again.
