Movies playing at a theatre near you this week (March 18th)…
It’s that time of the week again when local theatres bring out the best offerings from the world of cinema. While children’s animated comedy Kung Fu Panda 3 leads the race, there are also fantasy and horror movies for you to consider this week.
Without much further ado, here is Qatar Living’sguide to weekend movie watching.
1. Kung Fu Panda 3
In the third movie of the series, Po’s long-lost panda father suddenly reappear and the duo travels to a secret panda paradise. They meet hundreds of new pandas there. When supernatural villain Kai begins to move across China, defeating all kung fu masters, Po must train a village full of his fun-loving, clumsy brethren to become the ultimate band of Kung Fu Pandas!
2. The Wave
Nestled in Norway's Sunnmore region, Geiranger is almost a heaven on earth. But it is also a place where deadly tsunamis could strike any time. After several years at Geiranger's warning center, geologist Kristian is moving to work with an oil company. But the day he was supposed to move, disaster strikes.
3. Emelie
Two parents leave their three children with a baby sitter before heading out to the city on a date. The children take an immediate liking to Anna, the babysitter, who is sweet and fun to be with. But gradually, her interactions with the kids take on a more sinister tone. Jacob, the eldest of the three children, must protect his siblings from Anna.
4. The Witch
The year is 1630. A New England farmer, upon threat of banishment by church, leaves his colonial plantation and relocates his wife and five children to a remote plot of land on the edge of an ominous forest. An unknown evil lurks within. Strange and unsettling things start to happen almost immediately. As circumstances grow treacherous, each family member's faith, loyalty and love become tested in shocking and unforgettable ways.
5. Solace
An FBI agent and a psychic doctor combat a serial killer in this supernatural thriller.
6. The Dressmaker
Based on the best-selling novel by Rosalie Ham, this comedy-drama is set in early 1950s Australia. Tilly Dunnage, after working as a dressmaker in exclusive Parisian fashion houses for many years, returns home to the tiny town of Dungatar. Her intention is to right the wrongs of the past.
7. Kapoor and Sons
Rahul and Arjun returns home to Coonoor to be with their 90-year-old grandfather who suffered a heart attack. London-based Rahul has made a good life for himself while Arjun, living in New Jersey, is struggling with life. From the moment they land in India, things take a turn for the worse. The brothers get into a love triangle and things go from bad to worse.
8. Maheshinte Prathikaaram
The movie, which is based on the story of a real life man named Thampan Purushan, is a light-hearted comedy starring Fahad Fazil. Mahesh Bhavana owns a studio in Prakash City in Idukki. He is a happy-go-lucky person and his love affair with classmate Soumya falls apart. A seemingly trivial incident makes him take an oath that he keeps for several years. The movie unfurls among Kerala’s most scenic locales.
