Explore Qatar's new play areas for children

Widely hailed as a family-friendly country, Qatar has no shortage of entertainment for children. With the onset of the World Cup last year, Qatar introduced several entertainment options ranging from playgrounds to water parks and experiential learning zones. 

Here is a list of fun-filled activities to explore at some of the new play areas in Qatar. Jump in to the New Year by taking your little ones to one of the play areas listed below.

TotalEnergies Playground

The net zero energy playground is designed to inspire children with Qatar’s sustainability efforts and the future of energy. The playground consists of 15 different zones or pods, each furnished with interactive elements that inform children about the science and technology behind energy.

What to expect: 15 different pods connected by slides, ladders, tunnels and bridges, all set to unleash the adventurous side of your little ones. Children are invited to ‘choose their own adventure’ by entering one of the pods from various pathways. The park also consists of experiential play areas, trampolines and water play areas.

Age group: All age groups allowed. Best for children between 4 -12 years.

Tips: Bring a change of clothes as children may get wet in the water play areas.

Location: National Museum of Qatar (next to the NMoQ car park, a two minute walk from NMoQ metro station)

Timings: Saturday – Thursday: 9:00 am – 7:00 pm, Friday: 1:30 pm – 7:00 pm

Rates: Free

Doha Modern Playground

Doha Modern Playground is a public park designed by Shezad Dawood featuring 4 play objects and 2 bench designs resembling some of the iconic buildings in Qatar between 1962 and 1987. The buildings featured are the Ministry of Information & National Theatre Complex, the Doha Sheraton Hotel, Qatar University, the Central Post Office, Gulf Hotel and Dar Al Kutub. Visit the park with your family and see who can name and identify all buildings first!

What to expect: Slides, swings, tunnels and wall climbing fixtures that resemble some of Qatar’s most iconic buildings.

Age group: All age groups allowed. Best for children between 4 -12 years. 

Location: Corniche Street (a 10 minute walk from the Corniche Metro Station, a 5 minute walk from the floral arch)

Rates: Free

OliOli® Doha

OliOli is an indoor play area that encourages hands on activities, experiential learning and interactive play. OliOli consists of 6 unique galleries including the Kinetic Gallery, Water Gallery, Fitness Gallery, teamLab Future Park, Creative Lab and WonderSphere. Pick a gallery and watch your little ones explore the wonders of the natural world and learn about scientific principles through meaningful play.  

Activities include launching a rocket, building a race car, dancing in the rain, racing against your favorite animal and much more!

What to expect: Six interactive galleries (WonderSphere to be opened soon) with over 40 hands on exhibits that give children the freedom to explore.

Age group: Best for children between 1 – 16 years. One standard ticket gives entry to one child and one adult for 2 hours.  

Location: Children’s Mall, Katara Cultural Village

Timings: Tuesday – Saturday: 1:00 pm – 9:00 pm, Sunday – Monday: Closed

Rates: Standard ticket toddler (12 – 23 months): QAR 70, Standard ticket child (2 – 16 years): QAR 140

Beach Centrale

An exciting new play area for families by the Pearl Island, the Beach Centrale is an outdoor water park guaranteed to bring out the adventurous side in you. Get your little ones to build their sand castles and moats on the beach or watch them splash away in climate-controlled pools. Join in the fun by going down one of the many thrilling slides. At Beach Centrale, there is something for everyone!

What to expect: An artificial beach consisting of real sand, climate controlled pools and a waterpark with multiple slides. Facilities include changing rooms, lockers, lounge chairs, and food and beverage kiosks.

Age group: All age groups allowed

Location: Pearl Island (Adjacent to Duck Lake, near Viva Bahriya 14)

Timings: 10:00 am – 5:00 pm

Rates: Pearl Island residents: QAR 50, All other visitors: QAR 100

Chuck E. Cheese 

Located in the now iconic Lusail Boulevard, Chuck E. Cheese is a dine in restaurant and play area featuring exciting arcade games from high-tech video games to skill-based games and everything in between.

What to expect: A dine-in and play area with 58 arcade games for kids 3 years and above.

Location: Lusail Boulevard

Timings: Saturday – Wednesday: 11:00 am – 11:00 pm, Thursday – Friday: 1:00 pm – 12:00 am

Rates: Each game charges 1 to 2 points. Each point is QAR 7. Top up as required or choose from one of the packages (30 points for QAR 180 or 120 points for QAR 599)

CoComelon Town

Watch your little ones’ faces light up as they run into their favorite characters from CoComelon at Lusail Winter Wonderland’s CoComelon Town. The town features five CoComelon zones which are JJ’s House, Melon Patch Academy, Melon Patch Academy Playground, JJ’s Grandparent’s Farm and the CoComelon Musical Bus. Each zone consists of interactive elements from the CoComelon show that encourage your children to have fun in creative ways. Learn about the world in Melon Patch Academy or play with the horses at JJ’s Grandparent’s farms. A visit to CoComelon Town is guaranteed to brighten up your little ones day!

What to expect: 5 rooms including the CoComelon Musical Bus that plays CoComelon songs all day long. Each room features interactive elements that encourages hands on play and role play.

Age group: All age groups allowed. Best for children between 1 – 5 years.

Location: Lusail Winter Wonderland, Al Maha Island

Timings: Weekdays: 4:00 pm – 11:00 pm, Weekends: 4:00 pm – 1:00 am

Rates: QAR 125 per person
