MoPH highlights importance of flu vaccination this winter season
Through an advisory social media post, the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) had pointed out that flu vaccinations have now become more important than ever, requesting the public to get their shots due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The similarities between influenza (flu) and COVID-19 were communicated through this post, indicating that individuals infected with either the flu or the coronavirus will not show any symptoms but still be contagious. As there is no cure for both, it is treated based on the symptoms.
Moreover, severe cases for both viruses can maybe result in hospitalization, and patients who are very ill may even require a ventilator.
تتزايد أهمية الحصول على التطعيم بصورة أكبر مع اقتراب فصل الشتاء.

However, both the flu and the coronavirus can be prevented by wearing face masks or shields, following proper handwashing hygiene, coughing into the crook of the elbow, staying home when sick and limiting contact with those who are already infected.
In mid-October, the seasonal influenza campaign was launched by the MoPH in collaboration with Hamad Medical Corporation and Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC).
The on-going campaign aims to provide free vaccines across all PHCC’s health centers, HMC (for patients attending clinic appointments), and at more than 40 private clinics and hospitals as well as and semi-governmental health care facilities.
Furthermore, an article based on Qatar University’s research findings was posted earlier, showcasing the crucial role of the flu vaccine in clearing more beds for patients affected by the coronavirus.
