It is noted that most of the hospital staff nurses/assistants and even doctors too, wear their work dress while they come to public/town, particularly while their returm from hospital to accomodation. As these staffs works in hospital/clinic with the patients, is it good hygiene practice to wear the work dress to public? yestreday i noticed that one nurse in her work dress (may be on her way from hospital) came to a nursary to pick-up her kid!! Is it to be bannned the wearing of same hospital work dress to public? or at least the hospital staffs those who interact with the patients, can avoid to use the same dress which they wore in hospital/clinic? only my conceren

Doctors, usually wear or must wear their gowns inside hospital premises and this must be remove before living the hospital and must be cleaned and washed. I had worked in the one hospital that all doctors has hospital provided gowns,2-3 pcs, at the end of duty they leave their gown placed it in a designated bag for soiled and collected by laundry hospital staff. The next day they wear a new clean gown. This is one way of avoiding spread of infection. For nurses, specially those caring for patients who has a communicable disease or with a droplet infection, they wear a personal protective equipment. But likewise bacteria can't be avoided to stick on the uniform. I suggest if had a plan to go for shopping after work, bring a clean dress and change. Those who is not going anywhere when he/she reached home stripped off uniform at once to avoid contamination to others. But the best thing to do we should get the opinion from CDCP(Center for Disease Control and Prevention). I hope I able to answer your question fairly and it is not difficult for doctors and nurses to follow. Let us continue promoting good health and stop spread of infection.

Working dress should be worn at working place only. I saw blood stains on a doctors coat when he walked into a shoping mall. They too are Humanbeings and can be ignorant. Why should the public be put at risk ?

People should dress well in public places.

you want an honest answer? because it's a status symbol that goes with the hospital lab gown (the white one).

Perhaps you should ask your question to the Infection Control Nurse at the Hospital. But basically you are right. If uniform is worn outside of the Hospital there are issues with cross contamination. It is common practice in UK, ask yourself why there is such a high incidence of MRSA and C Difficile since the Uk authorities in their wisdom decided to close all the In House Laundries and take away changing facilities.

A very good question indeed. I too think since their white dress is specifically not to take in too much or radiations at all specially who are exposed to x-rays & chemotherapies, its best their dresses should be banned in public (for wearing) since they can infect others too
