”Doha Chapter of ICAI organizes workshop on “Combating Stress and Relaxation Techniques”
The Doha Chapter (The “Chapter”) of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) celebrated International Women’s Day by organizing a workshop on “Combating Stress and Relaxation Techniques”. The event was held on 13th March 2019 at Hotel Oryx Rotana and was well attended by around 150 attendees, comprising of Chapter members including their spouses and students.
The Key note speaker for the session, Gulnaaz Dashti, is a renowned Yoga practitioner who practices the “Iyengar Yoga” form of Yoga which was developed out of ancient techniques and made famous by Yogacharya B.K.S. Iyengar of Ramamani Iyengar Memorial Yoga Institute, Pune. Gulnaaz Dashti was accompanied with a team of specialist instructors from countries like Hungary, Brazil, Japan, India, UAE, Iran and Egypt.
The speaker started the Women’s Day celebration by emphasizing that “Woman has the power to withstand physical strains and mental pressures to a far greater extent than man and this is not due to physical strength or power of endurance, but is nature’s gift to her”. She went on to demonstrate simple stress combating yoga techniques which could be done at home or office using an ordinary table and chair. To quote Gulnaaz- “stress is a part of everybody and does not show up until Stress is stressed”!! Her mantra was very simple “GO out and DO”. The session was followed by a very prolonged interactive Q&A session where in wide range of questions on healthy lifestyle, food habits, yoga techniques, etc. were aptly answered by the speaker.
The chapter chairperson CA Rukkaiya Pachisa emphasized the relevance of the topic mentioning stress is inevitable and at times of great stress it is necessary to achieve a complete freeing of the muscles. Wishing all the best to the women members on the International Women’s Day celebrations, she emphasized on how women should face adversities and move forward without losing the focus. All the women attendees were given a flower sapling symbolizing - “"Nurture yourselves by defeating every challenge and grow together"
The vote of thanks was offered by Chapter Vice Chairman CA Sandeep Chowdhary who expressed gratitude to the speaker, members, executive committee team, volunteers, sponsors and all those who achieved in making this event a grand success. The session concluded with a cake cutting ceremony to mark the International Women’s Day.
Attendees, including family members, were highly appreciative of the Chapter for organizing an event on a relevant and common topic and inviting a speaker of such high pedigree. Intense interest, enthusiastic participation, quality of the speaker, positive feedbacks & an insightful Q&A session was the hallmark of the excellent event.
The Doha Chapter of ICAI is established in the year 1981 and is the oldest among the 33 overseas chapters of the Institute of Chartered Accountant of India. The current membership of the Chapter is approximately 300, who hold key positions in private and public sector establishments in Qatar and are actively involved in support and development of accounting profession in Qatar. The Chapter is actively involved in enhancing and updating the professional knowledge of its members, local professionals and non-members. Doha Chapter of ICAI is the first professional membership body to be registered with Qatar Financial Centre.
