What games to children play in Qatar? I'm a children's librarian near Indianapolis IN, USA. I host a program where we learn about a different country every month. This month is Qatar! So, I'd like to teach them a game that the children play there, not a video game, but something that they do with their friends. Thanks

While there is culture here of teenage boy's borrowing one of the many family cars for stunting during the siesta period, children play here as elsewhere. But as a westerner I notice that children here aspire to adult responsibility earlier than at home. However as in most of the world football (soccer), played in boots, trainers and often in bare feet on stony ground!, is probably the most visible activity of boys, girls don't usually "play out" and are busy with Barbie etc.

There is specificly no special game that children of Qatar play, they can be interested in any other game that children play around the world. But the favorite game of boys here is Football.

We have a tradition, specially for children here, it is called Gringaun. On the 15th of Ramadan(an Arabic month)every year, children go out dressed fancily, door to door, and collect bags full of Goodies, nuts, money, small toys. It is celebrated all around Qatar with great enthusiasm. If you are interested to know more about it, just google it...
