What constitutes Personal Belongings?

We will be relocating to Qatar in a few months time & we were informed by the recruitment agency that we are not allowed to bring anything esp. electronic equipments except our personal belongings.

What else can I bring in besides our clothing, shoes, personal hygiene without having it confiscated at the point of entry either at the airport or at port?

What Kind of Company is this. No Electronics ? Doesn't make sense at all. And regarding personal belongings there are no Tax to be Paid.

Personal belongings should be everything you need in your daily life except furniture. (My personal belongings are mainly electronics, books and a Sports Car :) )

Aisha-Taweela is on the money,

only contraband is confiscated, but maybe certain OTC medicine might give you grief especially if it contains codine or similar, otherwise its up the cost of transport, and the agent, but if it fits in your suitcases go for it, Prob don't want you to bring plazma TV and stereo system etc.

Hi Oakleaf

We are currently awaiting a shipment that contains our home computers, television, and various other electronic items as well as our personal effects. I believe there is a 4%(?) import duty payable when we receive these items.

Why would they confiscate stuff of yours? You are allowed to bring in many things. Only things not allowed are alcohol, drugs, pork, porn or ammunition. I think this is the total list. I am sure your agent is saying that you can not bring anything else cos of the money involved in shipment? Find out why he says this.
