what are the side effects of getting braces? Who is the best orthodontist in Doha for this?

I have a teenager whose front two teeth are slightly protruding. Braces seem to be the only option but i am concerned about unnecessary removal of healthy teeth and other side effects involved.
If any of you have teenagers who got braces please advise how painful, expensive and above all problematic this experience was.
Some say that forcing the teeth from their original position weakens the surrounding healthy teeth. I have also heard that over the period of time the teeth go back to their original position.
Kindly share your experience to help me decide what to do.

I can highly recommend Dr Shabier Shaboodien if you would like the highest quality of Orthodontics available. He works at Dr Sarahs Specialist Dental Centre close to Mercedes Benz showroom on Salwa Road.(44606059 or44606058) He is very clear with explanations and does not give false expectations. He is very popular with our patients too. I hope this helps you make your decision and if you have any further questions please don't hesitate to ask.

continued..... My daughter who is 12 was bonded just before the summer holidays. She chose the composite brackets as they can hardly be seen. In fact our family and friends did not notice that she had fixed braces until we pointed them out. she, however did experience a lot of soreness for the first 2 weeks. I gave her brufen which helped but eating was difficult. I think her teeth had further to move.

My 13 year old was bonded with fixed braces about 6 months ago. For the first two or three days his usual appetite diminished dramatically but he didn't complain. By the end of the week he was eating and talking normally. Every 6 weeks he gets them tightened and finds his teeth tender for a day but that is all. Spaghetti bolognaise, ice cream and sweet and sour shrimp are all easy to eat. Cleaning the fixed braces is difficult and I helped every now and again initially but now he takes excellant responsibility for this duty. Dr Shabier Shaboodien told me the treatment would take about a year, however, he now thinks only another two to three months so we are very pleased with the treatment. He did use Damon braces which are expensive but do speed up the treatment.

Lamea, Yes it is important to do orthodontics not only for aesthetics but also for the long term health of the teeth. It is more difficult to clean crowded teeth. Therefore the teeth are more likely to suffer from caries or periodontal disese in the future.

All my children have experienced braces. My youngest started with interceptive treatment at 9 and wore the removable appliance for 6 months. I was concerned he would loose it or dislike it. In fact he started to become responsible for it and always wore it because Dr Thomas told him too. He really enjoyed his regular trips to the orthodontist. For the first weekend his speech was very slurred. Fortunately he saw the funny side of this and talked more rather than less. He will need fixed braces later.
