UK Muslim Expats?
We are thinking of moving to Qatar and are looking to connect with other Muslim expats to learn about;
- good schools that follow UK curriculum which also offer Islamic studies
- childrens madressas (like in the UK) which can offer Islamic studies of Quran and Kitaabs
- living in Doha. Which is the most suitable compounds.
Any assistance will be greatly appreciated.

Doha is Good Alhamdhu'Lillah. Loads of brit Muslim expats over here. We get together with the brothers and the sisters organise something at least once or twice a week, for a dhars, dinner, footie or squash..... there is quite a lot to do, depends on the person really
Schools are a massive problems, you are better off coming here and having a look at them yourself rather than making judgement over the net on peoples opinions. What's good for them might not be for you and visa a vis. you better rush regarding the schools as the year is coming to a close. Best place to live would be somewhere close to your childrens schools, as school runs are a massive problem.
We've been here nearly 4 years, get in touch closer to the time you arrive, and it would be better to have chat.
Also QL is a good place to get all your info, it seems like a god send, never had it or it was no where as good around 4 years ago when i needed something like it. Use the search you will find a lot of useful info there, also about the schools.
Insha'Allah I hope and pray it all works out well for you
Contrary to what the other poster has written, DESS does not offer islamic studies. DESS is very close to standard government schools in the UK.
QIS, Qatar Academy, Parkhouse and Sherborne all offer arabic and islamic studies as part of their standard curriculum.
Doha Academy and Al Maha also claim to offer an islamic environment combined with a UK curriculum but are poor in both aspects especially in terms of academics.
Mudrassah for islamic studies - each locality has a government run mudrassah for learning quran. Depending on which locality you live in; your children will be entitled to go to the local mudrassah. As an alternative you could ask the imam of a masjid to come and teach at your home.
In addition to these there are various mudrassahs run by charitable Qataris that offer quran clasess at their homes. Contacting one of these mudrassahs will depend on the types of Qatari friends you make once you arrive here.
