So, I can use any "medium" to keep my heart rate at 60% of maximum and I should lose weight ..
A few ideas come to mind.. :o)
The secret of weight loss is to keep your heart rate at about 60 % of its maximum. The more you keep your heart rate in this zone the more you burn fat.
Simple
------
You maximum heart rate is usually: 220 - your age.
so if you are 20 years old: 220 - 20 = 200
60 % of 200 is: 120
So, for a 20 years old, no matter what he/she does, as long as his/her heart rate is in this zone, he/she burns fat.
Get a heart rate monitor watch, buy a running shoes and stop stuffing your fat round face with rice and bread and you shall lose weight.
Hi, I am a Personal Trainer here in Doha and I am also a qualified swimming instructor.
There are many misconceptions with "muscle puts on weight". To create a more lean physique you need to increase your muscle. It may well be the case that you will not see the scales fall down, but you will look better and feel better. It does not mean that you will end up looking like a body builder, if it was that easy every guy you know would have themselves bulked up beyond recognition.
Swimming is a fantastic form of exercise. It is low impact, so low risk of injury. And if it is done properly and with effort you will see great results.

swimming does not make u lose weight so fast as other excercises do, yeah but it will surely make a difference,
@Eliashamzo - What is swimming if it isn't a cardio exercise? I think you have been badly misinformed
I swam daily 10min freestyle lost 8 Kg in 3 months. After that i stopped swimming and continued jogging to maintain my weight. No muscle gain.
It depends on how much you swim. If you swim for long, then you will sure lose weight. Also the best thing is that muscle weight loss would be much less as compared to fat loss. So you wont look skin and bones in the end but a guy with a shapely form.
Swimming is one good exercise for weight loss....yes, it can gain muscles as the other exercises do....but muscles are being formed when you exercise more and when you eat more protein. Weight is being gained when you take more calories than required. So, in able for you to reduce some pounds, you have to exercise and lessen your calorie intake (eat less - take a lot of foods rich in fiber.)
And as mentioned by redtreble CV(cardiovascular)will burn off the calories. I recommend jogging...it is the cheapest and effective CV.
britexpat, it can be true if you did something accidentally in the pool other than swimming with an opposite sex.
I've heard that you can get accidentally pregnant in a swimming pool - is it true ?
Swimming will help you to increase strength , retain a good shape and good exercise for body and save you from back problems .
but will not help you to loose much weight , cardio exercises accompanied by a diet is only the way .
walk daily at least 5-10 kms
Mariecor - thts wt confuses me.....google itself says its good and its gains weight.....so i need help from people who knws well.. :)
google is waiting to help you...there's a lot of tips it can provide...just keep on reading and trying the tips and you will discover what is best for your own weight loss programme.
It's CV exercise, you'll burn off calories, lose weight (assuming that calories in < calories out) and you'll tone up.
