Today I had an extremely unpleasant encounter with a Qatari lady. She almost pushed my daughter down a staircase and when I confronted her she called my daughter "this stupid girl".
I spoke my mind to her but my head is still throbbing with anger. What to do?
Its good you spoke your mind, or it would always bother you.
I have learnt to instinctively protect my kids once I see women wielding large handbags; they don't seem to care that kids are right in front of them and they can hit them. They carry on walking, while you scamper around trying to get the kids off their path!
At least you know when you travel to certain countries your car can be stolen-children are innocents pushing a child out of the way 'cos you are in a hurry should never be excused regardless.
why does everybody keep saying welcome to qatar or to the gulf , so the killing and stealing in other countries is better than just bullying , you know , once in the 90s i went to us for just 2 days and my rented car was stolen . the point is every culture has bad people in it , dont say that all Qatares are bad just coz you met few people who are , however if any body treated you bad then ignore and pretend u didnt hear a thing ....
ill be proudly say to her.....thats stupid girl ur talking about is my lovely angel...or maybe ill tell to her,,,that maybe shes stupid today because she meet crazy people...and leave her with tiger eyes...lol
tats bad....but u shud have done something there ...u ain't gonna get anything after posting it here ... don't generalise coz you think ppl back in USA are polite...huh...think again...u will find this kind of people everywhere in the world,in every race,in every country,,,
Simple, You can turn rich over night it is possible but literacy Culture, Behaviour, courtesy politness, etc does not come over night or cannot be PURCHASED it all comes from the way you are brought up, the socity you live in and the culture you inherit. This is the truth and your true color will come out no matter you put up a image. hahahahah
nomad just let it go. Maybe the lady was in a hurry, and you and especially your daughter ended up on the wrong side of her. Like said above no harm done.. just relax.
I will write a stroy of a bad minded Qatari lady, my colleague a filipino lady got her long awaited happy news about her pregnency, when she came down her husband give her a small loving kiss on her forehead because of his happiness, one Qatari lady saw this and shout to them, then she called Police, when Police arrive she talked a lot in Arabic to Police man then when Police man asked to this couple they explained the situation and why he did it, Policemen was good he dont know what to say, he show his hands waive "Wahha" then this Qatari lady realised no action will be taken and she drove her car and go away?!! Can you tell why she respond like this??!!
I think the woman was in a hurry and my daughter was in her way. She pushed her aside to get infront of her and all this happened on top of a staricase. My daughter stumbled but luckily managed to get hold of the railing.
so now you've got a lesson better stay away with them, if they are approaching choose another way, in this way they may felt that they are being avoided. avoided because of attitude. be a keen observer if they are around dont get close to them. this is a extreme measure so that this incident will not happen to you again.
in fairness to qataris, i've met a lot of qataris with the best attitude. i've met a lot of qataris with so pleasing personality. but it will not justify that all of them are the same and vice versa.
it seems that they are (those who did that to you)not happy to see a growing number of expat in their country, perhaps they have some reason, we dont know...looks like they are irritated....
In hindsight there's always things we should've said and done, but seeing as the moment has passed I would learn from it and move on. I'm glad your daughter is ok :-)

But atleast it wld have given u the biggest RELAXATION of ur life..neways,i m a very diff.mom..I believe in RETAILIATING..I m not the one who follows to give another side of the face to get slap..lol..And gonna to teach same to my dgtr.for me, NO NEED TO SUFFER..REPLY or ATTACK instantly..
Whatever is done-is over now..u can't rewind what happened to ur dgtr..so relax and calm now..just be careful and alert from next time and don't leave the change to slap...lol
I did feel like doing that. Trust me, I soooooo felt like doing that, for the first time in my life but I didn't want to end up in the other woman's shoes.

BA, Ignorance, intolerance and arrogance is the answer.

You did not mention for what reason she did like this?!
hmm from my exp.. majority are rude.
Have seen many of them treating their fuzzy kidoes like animals infront of the public.
Never mind. Let it be. Your child is healthy and not hurt? Good.
Move on.
Why did she push your daughter?
What comes around, goes around....
Snessy, I agree with you.
Afrinnabees, we are in their country becasue they need us. I wouldn't turn into a bully but wouldn't tolerate being bullied either.
Khanan, qatari men are generally respectful, but ladies are a totally different story.
Forgive, forget and move on...I know it's difficult, but once you lose your temper, things go pear shaped.
Show your daughter the best example of how to be in difficult situations...Regards.

Well next time any Qatari or any Muslim for that matter tells you its MY COUNTRY, tell them "The Earth Belongs To Allah" ( الأرض لله)
Probably they may reflect.
Abd Shuraib al-Adawi reported
The prophet of Allah said ...and he who believes in Allah and the Hereafter should say something good or keep quiet.
Sahi Muslim Book 18, Number 4286
sorry to hear about hear your experience. Godd that your child is safe.
I had almost spent my life here in Qatar and I can for sure tell you that the good, soft-hearted Qataries out number the rude ones.
and I admit too, that rudest I come across was a Qatari lady who bullied me for a mistake of her.
take a deep breath and forget.

well nomad if i meet this nice qatari, that would be my happiest day of my life here in Qatar...hope that day will come soon...XD)
lei05, I absoloutely agree with you. I am still waiting to meet the nice qataris, no luck so far.
This is their country..we can't raise our voice being an outsider..
Well what do u expect? I don't agree with that Khattak. Whatever else you say about Qatari's, most of the grown ups are very polite, especially if they are educated.
Right Khattak, and not just uneducated ,because this lady was speaking perfect English.
I don't want my kids to turn into bullies inorder to survive among bullies, especially when they are here for only a couple of years.
deepb...they are not just "a few".

Sad to hear that. A few uneducated rude one's give bad reputation to the whole community.
nomad.me.....then face the reality, & be strong to defend your-self & your love ones....as soniya said
.......this part of world, culture & people are different than where u used to live....while living here, u will see what's the reality
Call it Planet Gulf Khattak.
Sonya, We can't change grown ups who are hard core bullies. I don't think she was going to learn anything.
bad example?? is this bad to defend ur love ones?? well i don't think so..
Radiant X, No, I have never had any such experience anywhere in the world and people in States are extremely polite.
nomad, u have lost the chance of teaching lesson to some SPOILED people..lol
If i would have been in ur place and if i wld've not done nething, i would have repented for this till my last breath..lol
a very good mom :)
Anyways I think she deserved a harsh treatment and I have a feeling that you took care of that :)

Deepb, When I spoke my mind to her, she blurted out that I shouldn't be in her country. So I quessed that she was a Qatari.
Thats really bad to hear..If neone wld have done this to my dgtr, i swear i would have drag him/her to hell..
I did feel like doing that. Trust me, I soooooo felt like doing that, for the first time in my life but I didn't want to end up in the other woman's shoes.
How can you say she is a Qatari? Not all women in Burkha are Qatari. It could be any nationality.
