Schools near Educ City for 7 & 5 yo

Hi,

Last minute move to Doha = stress about school placement for 5yo and 7yo!

We will be living in Education City Community Housing so I'm trying not to drive too far each day. We anticipate that, eventually, my husband and I will both be working. Where we currently live and work, our kids go to school from 8 to 3 and then aftercare is provided (for a fee) from 3 to 5. Based on what I have read, it appears we are very spoiled :-)

We are looking for an IB program or a school that follows the U.S. Common Core, but I understand that we can't be too picky since we are applying so late.

Can anyone tell me the school times and after school options for QatarAcademy and ACS? I've found information for ASD and Compass. I'd also be more than interested in hearing about other schools within decent driving distance that might be a good fit.

Also, does anyone have experience with placement of kids who are "too young"by Doha standards in terms of getting them into the correct grade? My 7yo was moved to 1st in the middle of her KG year. She is now finishing 2nd grade but the schools I've spoken with say she needs to apply for 2nd grade because she won't be 8 until mid-October. My younger daughter is currently in a mixed Pre-K/KG class and they intend to promote her to 1st grade (if we were staying) but she won't be 6 until mid-Dec. So, she is only eligible for KG in Doha. I'm confident that the schools will do placement exams and that they will be placed in the most appropriate grade. It's just another added stressor in terms of trying to find placements for them. I am interested in hearing if anyone has had a similar experience and can offer any advice.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Minoush, thank you very much I submitted applications for ACS over the weekend. Just waiting to hear back. I've got my fingers crossed...it looks like a really great school. We are not with Sidra. My husband will be working for the Qatar Foundation/ HBKU. Thanks again :-)

ACS is your best option. Compass is close but not great. It is good enough until a spot opens in another school and you can transfer. If you are a part of Sidra, there is a school created just for Sidra.

QA is full and only taking local children, Sherborne is purely British and very different than the Common Core.

ASD is the best school, but it is about 30 minutes from Ed. city.

Thank you. QATAR is currently full. I will inquire with the other two. Thanks for the suggestions!

Sherborne, Qatar Academy( almost impossible), gulf English school. Do not panic, the kids are young and won't make a difference.

Hi Translator, can you suggest any schools near Education City which might have openings? I'm really not trying to be picky. My kids love to learn and will make the most of wherever they wind up. My main priority is to stay relatively close to home. I'm also exploring options, closed at the moment, for next year. I understand that we are applying very late and will need to be flexible. This is all just a tad overwhelming because when we made our last move there was only one school option. That made it really simple :-)

Almost all schools are full, and have waiting lists. You are asking too much with all these conditions. Any school you can get in is a good school.
