PROFESSIONAL TRAVEL AGENCY

I want to travel at Christmas to either Malaysia or Sri Lanka with my family. One would think that this wouldnt be something difficult to arrange through a travel agency. When i ask for packages to the destination that i want its like ive asked them to give me the moon! Most of the staff ive come across really appear like they cant be bothered to help.

I need some suggestions for good travel agencies. Have been to the one in City Centre, Regency Travel (after 2 weeks still cant give me quote for Sri Lanka), been to several others and left my details with but they never bother calling back!

There must be at least one professional travel agency in this country, somewhere!

Help me out here!

Many thanks

I suggest Acon Travels , it was nice experience with them. Their service from Qatar up to the destination is great, tour guide is also so familiar and helpful. We loved our trip with Acon travel and looking forward to their upcoming other country’s plan and hoping to travel again through Acon. You can check reviews on below Facebook link. during online booking you must read the fine print.. but atleast you have them to read, but most of the agency dont mention it by default, unless you ask for it.. so both pons and cons..

dottymum, heard some good reviews about a newly opened travel office by NBK down in salwa road. a couple of our friends have booked holidays through them and had gotten a good service. u can try 4516050 (hope it's the correct number!)and give it a try. booking through the net is great and we've tried it but once we had a nasty incident where we had to change our plans and we were not given any refunds. there are so many hidden clauses involved in doing so. so beware!

and to mani, angelina ballerina and dottymum, there's lots to see in sri lanka and the shopping can b great if u know the right places to go to. send me a pm if u need info about good places to visit and shop.

we're off to Sri Lanka end of November with a toddler in tow. We just booked a privately owned beachouse and did the deal direct with the owner, then booked the flights! Was really cheap!!

Thanks for all your advice. I think that we will now go to Sri Lanka and i will book it myself as well. The prices that have now been quoted would make it cheaper to buy Sri Lanka rather than just have a holiday there!!

So now I want to ask for suggestions for a relaxing beach holiday with 2 children. We want to do some tourism so where could be suggested to stay at the beach and accessible for trips. Or would it be better stay at one of the many beach resorts then go to Colombo for the trips.

Many thanks again to you all.

We tend to do all of our holiday bookings online, I even organised my wedding myself, booked the holiday to get over there and then got in touch with the hotel to book the date, admittedly this was in the UK but since I have been here have been looking online for holidays, so far have looked at expedia and another (which I can't remember the name of, which isn't very helpful). Just try google and put in 'holidays to ???????' and see if anything comes back, thats what i did for the one I can't remember :-(

mandi, I agree with you. Once when we want to go to jordan 3 or 4 yrs ago, we try to arrange the trip through Regency Travel. They want to charge us for the transfer from the airport to the hotel in Ammand (20km) QR 300 EACH PER PERSON !

I went on multiply blog looking for jordanian user, and find out the taxi from the airport to amman town centre will cost you about 20 to 25 jordanian dinar (less than QR 150).

Travel Agent in Doha is pretty much useless in doing any travel packaging for you. They just want to rob you blindly.

I just booked a Sri Lanka holiday for second Eid on-line. Did the tickets on QR and found a hotel on tripadvisor.com. I actually e-mailed the hotel and got a 20% reduction in rates. I have not found a satisfactory travel agent in Doha. I aksed Mannai to find a 3-night stay for me in Dubai with airfare and they quoted me a price that I thought would buy the whole hotel! I also did Thailand and Cambodia on-line this past summer.

dottymum, look for Ram in spacetravel down the D ring road just before the lulu centre on the right hand side.

To be honest for holiday we usually arrange everything ourself online. We only use the travel agent for airplane ticket. Car hire, hotel, tour, transfer we do it ourself.

Which part of Malaysia you would like to go in particular. Once you landed in KLIA (Kuala Lumpur International Airport) everything is very straight forward. You can just buy the taxi voucher to go to your hotel.

Check New World Hotel Renaissance, it is in down town of KL and just next door to the monorail station. Once you get connected to the station you can go anywhere in Kuala Lumpur by train.

If you fancy going for beach holiday google Penang, Langkawi or Tioman Island.

For SriLanka, I know baldrick and UKEng been to that place few times, i am sure they can advice something for you.

... the travel agent at the lower level (car park level) of the Royal Plaza Mall. Not only are they professional, they are so helpful and friendly. Best prices (I did shop around) and a smile on their faces all the time! :)

why to depend on the travel agents with online booking and etickets!!!.... My humble suggestion would be to self arrange it..

I travel self and never required agency, gone those days.

for hotel booking you might require agents, but even that made easy by online people comments and feedback. for local visit google for local agents where you can save on commissions to different agents.... in conclusion. You are the most professional travel agent for yourself :-) cheers and Merry Xmas.
