Out of what i love since i came to Qatar 4 months ago are the heritages and panoramic view of the 'souq waqif' which has the traditional Qatari looks. I happen to tell one of my pal recently to find an old styled Arabic house to live in like the one which is at the souq. I am so passionate about it and I would love to live in one of those close to Doha.. any inputs?

Mandilulur ...lol yeah... it would be hot

But isnt it amazing that simple architectural changes can bring a difference about 2 to 3 degree Centigrade cooling?

Katara has a section where water flows and top is shaded near the amphitheater the temperature difference there is also remarkable!

In Zubara fort during the rains or early morning dew the water from the roof flows inside into the fort so that it can be collected inside. Modern day houses run these water out side and thus these goes waste. In Rajasthan desert area of India most houses collect whatever rain water they get in underground tanks.

BB, yeah, and I've been in them in the summertime in Oman. Still hotter 'n hell! I guess you could dig a pit for cooking outside. Just make sure it's at a distance from the outhouse.

These were energy efficient or green buildings... Zubara fort is one such building...

They have cooling towers... courtyards are shaded... captures breeze and every single drop of water/early morning dew...

All old houses are being demolishing by their respective owners to build apartments and get more bucks. So, I am thinking that your wish of living in old traditional houses can not be fulfilled. Its better if you start living in Souq Waqif or in Heritage Village in Bidda Park.
