Hi!

Does anyone know of a nursery or day care center near markiya area that is open up to 6pm?

Thanks again expat sueno. I'll definitely take all you've said on board. You've been I incredibly helpful.

Both Fun First and Busy Bees 2 are wonderful nurseries as well.

Fun First has a giant outdoor play area (rivaled only by Little Angels) and a lovely library upstairs.

The woman who runs Busy Bees 2 is simply lovely and knows all of the kids in the nursery by name. The facilities at BB2 are very nice as well.

To be honest you can't go wrong with any of the three, and I would choose based on where you'll be living - the closer the better. In Doha you'll find that location is everything.

Adding school-aged kids into the mix certainly complicates things since it's more of a matter of where they can get in vs. where you want them to go. You might want to start with that decision and then base your nursery decision on that since one may be a natural choice due to the school run.

thanks expat sueno,

that's all very encouraging. seeing as you seem to have experience with nurseries, did fun first and busy bees 2 impress you at all? if it came to choosing between these and petits pas in terms of facilities and curriculum what would you have to say are the pros and cons of each?

really appreciate your input! the whole thing seems so daunting from a distance -- and i'm not even dealing with schools yet!!

Petits Pas has both an English curriculum and a French curriculum. I don't know heaps about them other than the fact that they are separate - so in the French curriculum rooms the teachers only speak French and vice versa for the English curriculum rooms. The management is very nice and the teachers that I met when compiling the Nursery Guide were lovely as well.

They have a lovely open play area upstairs with nice natural light, as well as a separate dedicated soft play area.

Petits Pas is not a Montessori school, but when I was in the classroom for the ~2-2.5 year old kids I noticed that many of the toys had a Montessori flavor - no battery-operated toys, no "character" toys, etc. The kids were playing with plastic links, a (toy) wooden iron and ironing board and some other items that encouraged creative thinking and role playing. I would certainly feel comfortable sending my child there :)

Hope that helps!

Thanks expat sueno...

And what about the staff and curriculum? Have you had experience with this school?

Oh - and Petits Pas is the only one I know of in the Markhiya area that definitely takes kids until 6pm.

You might want to check out the Doha Mums nursery guide for detailed info on Petits Pas and other Doha nurseries http://www.dohamums.com/doha-resources/nursery-guide.html

Petits Pas is very nice - the classrooms are spacious and have nice natural light. The kitchen where they prepare the food is the "real deal" - very professional. The management is always lovely, too :)

Petits Pas nursery info.

I'm very interested in feedback on this nursery. It's one of the few that has extended hours and probably the only one serving food. But what's it like?
