newton International school

Does anyone have any information about what happened at Newton International School on Thursday? What I have heard seems to be very WRONG!!! I thought this kind thing in Qatar anymore especially with the SEC watching over the schools now! I’m very disturbed and upset about what I have heard and if it turns out to be true I for one will be reporting this to the SEC. I’m working in a SEC school and I’m sure they will feel this needs to be investigated. The welfare of the students should be the priority of everyone involved in the schools from the cleaner to the OWNER. Very very unprofessional and disappointing in this day and age.

Teach2011- I appreciate your attempt at damage control, but you have provided no information other than what was already stated: an employee/employees were terminated. But this was more than a kind and gentle termination. Several staff and students witnessed a very disturbing and public row between the principal and owners. Some students were crying-secondary students. As a Newton parent who has already had a meeting about unacceptable behavior by a teacher, and then this fiasco...well, I think we deserve a better explanation from the owners about what exactly is going on.

I have been following the discussion and would like to provide everyone with the correct information. As I am an employee at the school I would like to set the record straight. As most of you are aware, all employees and employers in Qatar, have a three month probation period in which both the employee and employers are able to terminate their contractual employment. In the case of the events that played out on Thursday this was an end results based on a decision that was taken in the best interest of the students and their academic achievements in the school. All the contractual and financial obligations have been met to ensure that the member of staff is treated fairly. A suitable and capable replacement has been appointed. The priority of the school has always been the students and this will remain the same.

They are not just rumours!! And I now have alot of concern over the education after these members of staff were treated in such an awful way and will no longer be in lagoon !! Does any one know of any schools that are good and have spaces??

Milly this happens in most schools here, school is business for them.

Believe me - no one can question a decision made from the top. No one is there to stand up for the teachers - they stand alone and get ousted alone. This school has a bed reputation for the way they treat their staff. Mostly the ones who care are the ones who try to change things and get kicked around and out. NIS - is not there for the enriching of your children - it is there to make as much money for the owner as possible. And believe me - little or none gets put back into the schools - new resources are rarely seen. West Bay is a sham of a school. Early Years in particular and yet they get away with it and pass all inspections - I have no idea how.

Hi jojo, when I read your post and your specific concern regarding the welfare of children, it appeared as though something bad was done to a particular student., and felt concerned too. Now that you state that it's dismissal of a teacher, well these things do happen and the school may have good grounds for summary dismissal. Would your children know the details of it, maybe not so. This happened on Thursday, i am assuming yesterday and schools will be closed for a week, so in all probability other than a few teachers of that school, others may not know yet.

You sound upset, but just wait and the facts will come out. An issue can be raised at any time, suspicions can be raised all the time, but we need facts, which are not available yet. Whatever other teachers also say will be their opinions and not necessarily facts. There are many unfair treatments handed out to teachers, but it's between the teachers and management. Can you really take a complaint based on information gathered by just words unless this teacher himself or herself approaches you to help him or her with a complaint. Since your children study at the school, you can rightly question the school management over this decision as it upsets you and then decide how you want to go ahead with the issue.

zazel, no im not sure, thats why im trying to find out more info without going into details of what they told me. if you notice in my post i did state "if" its true i will report it, i came here to try and find out if anyone could confirm. IMO to give all the details without my knowing the truth would be the wrong thing to do. if no one can confirm it i will take it as wrong infomation but if someone, for example a teacher at the school can back up the story then i dont see anything wrong with the detail going public.

All schools in Qatar including NIS work under the umbrella of SEC and they all know the policies/guidelines/rules and regulations very well.

Jojo I hope you will be able to eloborate more with the help lines given by flor. One thing I really don't understand is you are giving more importance to your kids talk and criticising a school in a public forum IMO which is not a good practice. Are you very sure what they told you is very true?

My kids go to Newton International Lagoon campus, thank you very much, you haven’t heard anything, you answered my question, was that so hard? Now i will wait and see if anyone else did.

Have a nice weekend.

the query made, WHAT DID YOU HEAR? So we will know you are not just making-up this story?

I will give you a starting words. like this.....

My child told me that an employee was kicked-out by the school (branch), for an apparent reason (you can state the reason as said by your child). Now I want to know if anyone can confirm this!

Will that satisfy you, madam teacher? Oh, BTW, my wife heard nothing about that in NIS Lagoon? so again, where does your child go school?

Flor, do u work at any of these schools? Do u have kids at any of these schools? Were u at any of these schools on Thursday? If not they u don’t really have anything to say that I want to hear. If anyone can tell me how to edit the topic I will be a bit more specific and ask for comments from anyone working at the school.

so an employee was sacked, now was it a male or female? BTW, do you know how many campuses NIS has?

The newest (where my spouse works) is NIS Lagoon. Then there is NIS Westbay and I don't know what they called that one accross KAtara.

Then there is Salwa and D-ring, so which is which (at least we narrow-down your rumor-mongering facts). Lolz!

I didn’t say it would make me stand out from the crowd but I have some knowledge of the rules and regulations. I’m interested in it because my kids go there and seeing this kind of thing makes me wonder about the stability of the school. If we all have the attitude that we cannot complain nor do anything we will never get anywhere, maybe your right, maybe the school will prove they were right but at least I will feel I did the right thing.

Working in SEC school won't make you stand out in the crowd. In their eyes you are just a teacher...BTW why are you so much interested in that school's own issues? Hiring and firing depends on the management dicision...I think even if you launch complaint the school will provide strong evidence to support what they did was absolutely right!

Is it affecting you? Is it anything to do with u? If not just keep out of it! I have my kids words about what happened and it was very upsetting to them. If I take it to SEC I would like to go with a bit more information!! You know you people are so sad, u complain about things all the time and never do anything and when someone tries to do something you attack them! Got nothing better to do with your weekend?

I would rather wait till someone can confirm the story I have heard, maybe someone who was actually there, but it involves the seemingly unfair dismissal of a member of staff. I just want to make sure I have the story right before I try to take it any further.
