Of what interest are the "SOPs" in other hotels?  The only thing that really matters is what the law says, and if  legally the hotels don't have to do a check, what is the issue?  If it is required by law and not being done, then there is an issue.  If an SOP is just a matter of habit in other hotels, it is pretty meaningless to the conduct of the place under discussion.

Mmmm, "allegedly' and "in my opinion" will offer a certain amount of defence in some countries, but they are not water-tight, again depends on the country.  Think of the difference between the headlines "John Smith a child-molester", and "John Smith a child-molester?"  In some places that question mark will give you a certain amount of protection, but in many other areas it offers no protection against defamation as you have planted the idea.

I just mentioned that a club is renting out rooms in Qatar to couples without looking at their marital status which is the standard operating procedure (SOP) in all other hotels in Qatar. There is no vice den being run by any hotel. Actually if my post hadnt been taken down forcefully all this misunderstanding would not have had arisen.

You mentioned "vice den". Where did that come from?

Your post?

QL is not hosted by Q-Tel so no need to worry.

By knoxcollege• 4 Apr 2008 18:21

The just have to put this on the website that the views and opinions expressed on this website are not the views of the administrators.

It is as simple as that.

End of story.

Where is QL hosted out of? Qatar or elsewhere? Laws vary considerably country to country, but in many common-law based countries, forums are not held responsible for the postings of the users, but there are so many exceptions and differing rules.  However, even if the mods aren't technically legally responsible, if QL is hosted in Qatar harassment would be quite easy.

Also, many forum's mods tend to the side of caution so that ISPs don't pull them down to avoid any legal hassles, even if the forums are well within their legal rights in that country.

By knoxcollege• 4 Apr 2008 18:10

also abstains from publishing the names of the golden companies that are involved in continuous workers rights violation.

We should all have this mentality including the newspapers and the authorities and try to cover the dirty details so as not to offend the golden companies and result in a legal action.

Hope to see more news in the paper as :

"An Asian employee of a reputed company in Qatar was burnt to death in a fire that broke out in that company's camp. The company's management has said that they are investigating the cause of the fire"

Way to go Gulf-Times. Keep the same attitude and we will probably not see a change even in a billion years.

FYI as long as a post has not been written by the mods no one is going to bring a law suit against him. If that was not the case than all internet forums by now would have been sued.

Anyways I dont understand why is it not possible to criticize an

establishment comprising maximum one thousand people with the risk of

legal action.

And why is it allowed to criticize the faith of one billion people.

The mod allows the faith, the belief etc etc of one billion people to

be ridiculed but wouldn't allow a small or should I say tiny

establishment be criticized for their rules?

Ummmm, because one billion people speak with one billion voices in hundreds of languages and cultures and have no one recognized authority who speaks for them. One thousand people can speak with one voice through one representative, particularly when they are not divided  by language, culture and infighting.  An apple and orange comparison

knox - If you wrote what you say you did in your last comment - that an establishment isn't checking the marital status of couples - and you named that establishment, then adey is probably right about why your post was removed. QL isn't the place to be reporting a specific company for illegal practices as it could unfairly involve QL admin in any subsequent investigation, and/or lead them open to legal action from the company.

When did I accuse them of running a vice den? I only stated that they dont check the marital status of the couple before renting out a room as per the normal practice and procedure in other hotels in Qatar.

I never said that they are running an escort service. I think you should re-read my previous post again

Without prejudice, as I've never been to the establishment:

You accused an organization of knowingly operating a highly illegal practice. If you have real knowledge of such things then you are duty bound to inform the authorities not make speculative claims on a website,

The establishment in question would come under severe attention by the police and this website could be accused of libel as you named a specific organization.

I think this is why your post was edited.

As for sometime on QL we havent had some "real" action so we are trying on working towards the real action-the legal action.

Asides I criticized one establishment's policies in Qatar and the mods of the site took down my post under the pretext that my post can become a root cause for legal action.

I didn't see the article but had you openly accused someone of something illegal or similar?

I would assume that if you had, that would be reason for editing/deleting

Thank you mods. I wonder if the mods have some time to read the Gulf-Times. IF they have had the time they would have definitely seen the articles about XXXXXX in the letter to the editors section printed couple of months back.

I wonder why Gulf Times didnt get a legal notice.

No wonder his wife keeps on asking me every weekend why do they give him so much work on Thursday nights that he comes next day in the morning all tired. Why cant they give him work on other weekdays?
