Hello all, I currently living in Canada and got a job with KBR at Ras Lafan in Qatar, initially i be moving alone and will live at their camp site, but in a month or so I be inviting my wife to Qatar, I only visited Qatar once july 2007 for 15 days, so I know a lil bit about the place but never visited Ras Lafan or Al-khawr. please advise whether Al-khawr will be the best place for me to look for rent or Doha and whats the commute distance from doha to Ras - Lafan, any other info will be much appreciated? Also, whats a good cheap price to get a 1 bed room apartment in al khawr or Doha, thanks

I live in Alkhor, very simple life,..very boring,.. in friday (week end) you'll wake to see waves and waves of bachelors going and coming in the main commercial street (the only street here).

if you have kids..you'll be in trouble since there's no private schools nor nurserie. there's no even a place for kids to have fun. except the chornich which is crowded of bachelors day time and dark at night time...

who said that it's cheap to rent here...!! if you find a house here (maybe with 15,000 Q.R to say it's a house). i spend two years to find a very old house. most houses are camps for bachelors.

Doha is better, even crowded, nice city, if you find a house near qatar university you'll need 50 min. to reach Ras Laffan.

why I'am still in alkhor...good question. coz my wife got a job recently there. and I'am working in Ras laffan...

wish you the best,

unfortunatly i m not moving because of money but for some other personal reason, no they are not providing the accomdation but giving a bit of allowance for off campus living,

and yes u can't teach experience but you can try to teach the new changes which affects the old ways :)

so back to real question, salary is allright, my only major concern is renting a bed room accomodation for for ma 2 ppl small family :) and getting a car for commute, rest shouldn't be an issue. I probably will get their in a month, so any advise i can get I appreicate it,

thanks again everyone

No one would want to leave canada and come to qatar unless if the money is good. Weather u live in Doha or Al Khor, it wont make a difference cuz there isn't much to do in Qatar as it is. Al Khor on the other hand is a quiter place, appartments might be cheaper since its outside doha, dont know much about social life, but Al Khor being a small city it has a better things around, the beach is close by, there's almost everything in Al khor, LULU is opening up a branch of their super stores there and I believe people are more social there, since everyone knows each other from work. I suppose the company you will work with at Ras Laffan would provide you the accomodation aswell, wont they?

It's always the small things that make big differences.

This beautiful city has its own style of living and you will love this place.

If you have a job at RLIC then the distance from Doha to RLIC is about 80-90 KMs and will take you there in an hours time provided u escape the traffic. Otherwise it is suggested that you stay at Al Khor about 20 Kms before RLIC enroute from Doha. It is safe for u and less streneous. Come to Doha in the weekends to enjoy!!!!

Best of Luck!

hi there it is better if u stay in khaur as RAS LAFFAN is near to it which could be (15 to 20) kilometers

from khaur to ras laffan

but if u stay in doha..it will me like 50 to 60 kilometers
