Living in Qatar
I have enjoyed the scenery, the people, the restaurants, the shopping, and weekend enjoyments, which has changed dramatically in Qatar from when I worked here in 1996/1997. But, unlike the early years, I was not aware when I accepted a contract here, that I would not be able to obtain schooling for my son. Arriving with my family in early November, I found that all western schools were full at my sons age level, and I resulted in paying for expensive tutoring to keep up his education.
I have resigned from my job to move my family back to the US, so my son can finish the school year in a regular school, and have some sociability. As I will be returning to another international assignment, but not in Qatar.
I will tell everyone I know, Qatar is a wonderful place, and very enjoyable, but make sure to make plenty of serious enquiries before bringing a family.
Cedars is truly the worst possible option for your child. Do not send your child here! Our child has had a terrible experience there.
Have you aver heard of Cedars Tutoring school? They offer school space for any kid who is on a waiting list.... Check it out! It's worth it! My son goes there and they offer good education.
Good luck!
I should have done more research, and will take more precautionary measures in the future. I have not lived in my homeland in 25 years, with 18 years in the middle east.
Thanks for the comment,
You are correct, and I should have done more research, and will in the future. My ex-company does not have an HR Dept. in Qatar. All HR is handled through the Main Office in Madrid Spain.
Thanks for the comment,
Well, take precautionery measures from next time whenever u will think to move out of ur homeland..
your homework in this regard - too bad it didn't work out for you. However, I think your employer's HR dept should shoulder some of the blame here because they should have been aware of the education situation.
